AN INTERNET BULLY AND MILLIONAIRE IS CHARGED WITH MURDER.

Attorney Kirk Hoffman only represents the innocent and works behind the scenes to help his clients. But when Dwayne Sachs, a contentious online influencer and the son of a former client, comes to Hoffman on a murder charge, he can’t say no, even though it seems like a simple case and there is little doubt Dwayne is guilty.

He just seems the type.

BUT KIRK HOFFMAN IS CONVINCED DWAYNE SACHS IS INNOCENT.

Dwayne was caught on camera visiting Rebecca Shuffield in her hotel room shortly before she was found brutally stabbed to death and there are no other suspects, but Hoffman sees something others don’t and signs Dwayne as a client. His investigation isn’t even a day old, and everybody on Hoffman’s team is convinced Dwayne is the killer, but he stubbornly pushes forward, soon discovering outside pressures trying to coerce a resolution.

EXTERNAL FORCES COMPLICATE MATTERS.

Hounded by the media, chased by people hidden in shadows, and dogged by those intent on Dwayne’s destruction--both friend and foe alike--it isn’t long before Hoffman, his team, and even Hoffman’s family are all endangered because of Hoffman’s dogged determination to see this through to the bitter end regardless of the personal cost to him. Can Hoffman identify the murderer in time to stop him from killing again? Can he prove his instincts are correct without it costing everything he holds dear?

Can he discover the truth when it seems everybody around him is determined to hide it?

would like to see more in this series, but the main character's wife & employee Lux were very annoying!! they should be less abrasive.

good story, moved along well

It was boring and full of lots of moving around, back and forth…..not a well developed or compelling plot.

Story was disjointed and pointless

lots of characters to keep track of and how each fit into the story line

story line was very good

Certain points in the storyline were over emphasized. I figured out most of the ending before I was even halfway through.

Disappointing

I enjoyed most of the book. My biggest problem was trying to remember who was who.
I love the narrator. He does a great job with all the characters.

Too many characters to follow.

I chose the headline for this review largely because as I endured the 113 chapters (albeit some were short/transitional) I harkened back to my youth when the family would make long car trips and where, invariably, en route one of my siblings (or me) would sigh and wonder aloud if we would ever get to where we were going.

Such was a similar experience in going the distance with The Fixer. Given that I'm a legal thriller junkie, I'm more willing to give authors I haven't read/listened to before a "go". The plot setup in the description sparked enough interest to dive in. The first "uh-oh" was that the narrative of this convoluted tale was a first-person account, which is challenging enough in shorter works, but daunting in peeling the onion of multiple characters, intrigue, and the piecing together the story elements that had all the trappings of 500-piece jigsaw puzzle. The audio narration by Eric G. Dove gave me pause at the outset but my appreciation improved when the multiple characters (male and female) were piling onto the the main story and various subplots, potential red herrings, and other tortuous plot devices could have otherwise had me heading for the exit. Dove's facile voicing helped immensely in my ability to distinguish the who's who in the "cast" and thus invited me to stay along till the end of the journey.

Author Dan Decker obviously has the acumen and understanding of not just the law, but much of the cloak & dagger devices and degrees of social media, technology, moral/legal rectitude and a passion for principles that brands lead character Kirk Hoffman. I just wished Decker had mapped a shorter trip.

Are We There Yet?
