Noclip in, no way out ...

All Dan wants is to find a way home. He'd settle for a beer, a bite to eat, and a place to sleep off his hangover.

But, in an endless, ever-changing dungeon cobbled together from twisted carnivals, abandoned shopping malls, janky laundromats, and condemned insane asylums, getting a bit of shut-eye is harder than it sounds.

Dan has accidentally "Noclipped" into the Backrooms—a bizarro, extra-dimensional Alice-in-Wonderland world, overrun with horrific nightmare creatures known as the Dwellers. No one ever gets out. Hell, forget about leaving, if Dan wants to survive the week, he's going to need to harness the strange game-like magic of the Backrooms, make some very sketchy allies, and carve out a little safe haven to call his own.

And he's going to need to do it fast because Dan is being hunted. The Flayed Monarch of the 999th floor has marked him for death and no one walks away from the Skinless Court with their hide intact ...

“The book is a f***ing delight. I enjoyed the absolute hell out of it and think it's an excellent use of pop culture to make something fun and horrific and awesome.” (Eric Ugland, author of the Good Guys and Bad Guys series)

“Buckle up, buttercup! James Hunter takes you on a balls-to-the-wall adventure that's as insane as it is awesome.” (Jez Cajiao, author of the Arise and Rise of Mankind series)

"Discount Dan is a fun, fast-paced read with awesome game mechanics, surprising humor, and a brutal adventure you won’t want to put down!" (Dakota Krout, author of Completionist Chronicles, Full Murder Hobo, and The Divine Dungeon)

If you like DCC, this has a similar feel. Snarky, darkly funny, and a good bit of 90’s nostalgia. I’m fan and can’t wait for book 2!

I’m just waiting for Dan to get his own jingle like “588-2300…”

Sure, it's full of some truly disturbing imagery (pretty expected for anything involving the back rooms), but it's also a lot of fun.

Fairly fast paced and full of detailed fight scenes, it also has snarky system messages, a "real human dog" who's a bit obsessed with the Twilight series and waterparks, and solid human connections.

This book is so much fun

Here it is like i promised. A little late but color me impressed! This was definitely worth getting and the listen. Before I go any further I want to say I went in to this looking for a dungeon crawler fix. That was a mistake. A pre existing bias will ruin anything, however as soon as I was able to remove my head from my ass and saw the comparisons to scp 3008 never ending IKEA…. Well I won’t lie to you I may have needed new undies.

Review:
Story- the story starts out like waking up after mushrooms or a fever dream. Not entirely sure what or where Things are. The action is constant entertaining and not forced. Not everything feels like it’s being forcefully dumbed down for the audience but like you are right with the main character as it’s being played out.

Presentation- enjoyed how the narrator delivered this. Also the characters present themselves effectively enough it was easy to visualize.

Overall- definitely recommended this to my coworkers already, plus I already purchased and finished the second book. Spoiler it’s 100% worth getting!

Like I said I would

i was definitely expecting an AI knock off of DCC. it's not. the closest it comes is the premis, which i will never fault anyone for because who hasn't gone "if I was in that situation I would do X,Y and Z"

Anyway. characters are great and aren't over explained which makes them interesting.
The world makes it plainly known that sometimes the information your given is wrong (i personally hate when every peice of second hand info in a book is 100% accurate). the physics are knowingly wonky (in the best way). if it keeps going like this it's gonna be right up there with DCC and TWI (the highest praise i can give a first book in a series)

if I was playing a dnd game, I would want this author to be my DM.

amazing

A lot of people compare this to DCC and I will tell you it’s has some similarities but it works so well and grows its own legs so quick. The back rooms is an amazing concept to explore
