The Amazing Characters!

It was a wonderful listen….but Emma always writes the best books with the most complete characters. You really feel like you are right there with the key characters and understanding their pain and their struggles. Mostly you feel their love. What I like most about this book is how opened Zack and Rowan were with each other. 5 stars all around!

What a treat this was!

What a treat this was! Emma Scott is one of my favorite authors and I was so excited to dive into her newest release. Zach and Rowan..... this story has so much emotion, so much self-discovery, and so much heart. The Hollywood setting was so interesting to me. Both main characters were wounded from past relationships, and I loved how they helped each other heal. Narrator Caitlin Kelly has performed other books by author Emma Scott, and I just love her voice. She was a perfect Rowan. Zachary Johnson was new to me, but he did an excellent job as Hollywood heartthrob Zach.

This is the most beautiful romance! A dramatic and emotional love story between an emotionally damaged woman and the most amazing, cinnamon roll movie star hero. I loved this one.

Rowan’s life was forever altered following a devastating tragedy in her teenage years. She was left emotionally shattered but has gone on to create a good life for herself, even if it’s not the life she thought she would have. Having given up on her dreams and closed herself off to romance and emotion, she lives a mostly detached existence to protect herself from being hurt again.

Zach Butler is a movie star, and he’s the hottest thing in Hollywood. He’s a genuinely good guy who works hard, and has achieved a lot, but what he really wants is love, a family, and to settle down in a happy life. He thought he found it, but he has just broken off his engagement when he found his fiancée cheating, and he is going through a tumultuous break up which is playing out in the world’s media.

Rowan and Zach meet on the set of his latest movie, where she is a production assistant. They start talking and form a quick connection, and while Zach is keen to his explore his attraction, Rowan is her usual closed-off self. But their banter is fantastic, and they find an easy and natural friendship. And as they continue to spend time together, Zach slowly starts to break down Rowan’s walls, and the banter and chemistry is magic!

“I knew what I was getting into when I came to your party,” Zach says, and that same soft look comes over his face with an added pinch of mischief in his hazel eyes. “And besides, it’s kind of worth it.”
“How?” I demand. “How is it worth it?”
He turns the phone to show me the pic of me gazing up at him like a lovesick dope.
“Oh my God.” I shove his hand away. “That is not… That is one moment…”
A satisfied smile spreads over his luscious mouth as he studies the photo again. “I agree. That’s a moment.”
“Ugh…”
“Hey, don’t be embarrassed,” he says, putting his phone away. “If the camera had been pointing at me, they’d all see I was looking at you the same way.”

Their coming together is not easy though. Between Rowan’s tragic past, Zach’s messy break-up, his celebrity life and the ever-intrusive press, they have a lot to deal with. But their feelings for each other are impossible to ignore, and to get their happy ending they have to battle each other’s demons, as well as their own

“Why me?”
“Because, Rowan. I like who I am when I’m with you.”

This is such a gorgeous read. I loved Rowan and Zach, and I felt so much for both of them and all that they have been through. I love how open they are with each other, and despite all they’ve been through, they have this easy sense of trust between them which is beautiful to see. Their love story is sweet and fun, dramatic and sexy, but it’s their emotional connection that shines off the page and captured my heart, and I just adored them together.

“I feel like I can breathe. For the first time in years, I can breathe and just…be.”

This book has some really deep messages that are beautifully revealed as we watch Rowan and Zach unpack their pasts, and I loved watching them work through it all. They don’t let it define them, they are not whiny and “why me?”, they just acknowledge it and they deal, and though they’ve been living with it all for such a long time, their journeys of individual healing are so beautifully intertwined with their love story.

“I think there comes a point where we just have to let go. Move on and try to learn from our mistakes and not keep punishing ourselves for them.”

Emma Scott really knows how to bring the feels, and she’s written such a beautiful romance for Rowan and Zach. I loved their story so much and finished this book with a happy heart and a smile on my face.

I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Caitlin Kelly and Zachary Johnson, and they do a wonderful job bringing these characters, and their story, to life. I definitely recommend listening to this one.
