In the shadows and flames, Primals will fall…

And from the blood and ash, new gods will rise.

What was dreamt.

Poppy was never meant to awaken, and the consequences are devastating and far-reaching, stirring ancient powers from their slumber and transforming Casteel and Kieran in ways even the Fates couldn’t have foreseen. But what that means is the least of their concerns. For now.

What was foreseen.

The Blood Crown has fallen, but what has risen is a far greater danger than they’ve ever faced. From flesh and fire, the Great Conspirator has returned to the mortal realm, and he wants only one thing. They must stop the true Primal of Death before he regains his strength, and it won’t be easy. Even weakened, his influence is undeniable. His power, unthinkable.

Has come to be.

While the future of the realms rests upon them, they won’t stand alone. The gods have awakened—each harboring their own blood-soaked secrets. But they must navigate an unbalanced realm, where every choice—past and present—has the potential to not only undo everything they’ve fought for but also destroy the very bonds that have Joined them together.

For the Harbinger and the Bringer of Death and Destruction has risen.

This book was postponed because Jennifer said she had more to add and she wanted to add more to the story to wrap everything up. After the absolute waste of time that the last book was, I truly expected her to produce a plot heavy, good book that tied into the Flesh and Fire series. The entire first half of this book is pointless. It drags on and on and was the hardest book yet to continue reading. I am so disappointed by this book especially after the hype.

Disappointing...

The plot thickened with this one!! This was a very long listen and definitely required way more attention and following along bc of the number of names thrown in considering the various gods and fates etc. but I enjoyed this! Now it’s definitely not my favorite out of the series. I listened to the first five so quickly it was insane, aside from the length of this one, I found myself more easily distracted listening to this. My only other major gripe is Kieran is my fav and I felt like there wasn’t enough of him in this book. I really enjoy the dynamic between the three of them with their banter and such (and let’s not forget that joining 😉) and I was kinda hoping for a little bit more spice involving Kieran tbh 🫢 like there were a few times where I felt like we were being led on that a spicy scene with Kieran was gonna happen and then nothing happened! but overall, it was an awesome listen. I enjoy this series, kinda frustrated that I found out it wasn’t going to be the last book after the fact tho too. I love the voice actors for these books!! Stina Nielsen is probably one of my fav female voice actors!

Holy moly but also…

Truly, I am obsessed with this series. It is hands down one of my absolute favorites. So with that being said I have anxiously awaited the release of this book and have been extremely disappointed. I do not feel like it needed to be 40 hrs. Which so much felt like a recap or completely unnecessary. I don’t mind the good bits in the middle of a book but this felt redundant from past books. Also poppy has always been strong and somewhere lost that but yet had even more power? Dumb. Cas has an extremely unfair ending. And Kieran was basically non existent in this book. Kieran who? I really didn’t like so much about this book and it’s so sad because I’ve anxiously awaited it and it’s been a huge disappointment. Maybe the next book will make up for this one. I will say the narrating is the only thing that saves it. They all do amazing. Cheers to them

Overall not great!

I'm 11 hours in and I'm struggling so much. I've listened to the entire series all over again in preparation of reading this book. I'm so mad and disappointed at this point. Because... WHY IN THE HECK IS SHE IN NEW YORK? WHY?! WHAT WAS THE REASON? I'm mad about Cas and Kieran. And I'm tired of being in the darn bedroom. I'm so disappointed and angry right now. I've waited three years for this story to progress to only get a book full of filler and disappointment. Please do better.

What is happening?

I’m a JLA fan, and I just cannot believe this is one of hers. It’s back teeth achingly boring. It has none of the spark of the previous books. Lots of battle strategy discussions that really meant nothing because they minute details are not well known if in fact they’ve ever been presented before. The sex is now a slap dash snore bore, though still gratuitous and mostly unnecessary. Then there’s the Throple tension, that has shades of harem “romance”. Series should have ended with War of the Queens, to go out on a high. This book sinks like a stone. I only gave it as many stars because it’s JLA. I hope she’s ok. The narrator always always does a great job.

A Slog
