Summary

Humanity stands at the brink of extinction.

Earth has been bombarded by forces beyond our understanding.

In the aftermath, monsters roam the Earth while humanity is forced into a few small safe zones, but not all is lost.

When the shadows fell, so too did hope. Progentitor rays birthed a new breed of humans, known as supers. Now those few are all that stands between mankind and death upon the claws and fangs of monsters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I do attack books with reckless abandon and go through them so quickly I end up just getting omnibus versions so I don’t sell my soul to have a new book to listen to, and this book series was really really good. I enjoyed the variety of characters as well as the light dabbling of pop culture references that do not take away from the story at all. I really did have a blast and Jonathan waters and Maeve Yorke was phenomenal. It was so so good!

Stars above this was a good listen!

Great character development, fast paced and exciting storyline. The world and the intrigue are well developed. I also liked the way he keeps stats as a separate chapter throughout.

good read

It is a very good story there is a lot of stat chapters but easy to skip over if its a drag on your experience a little overly complicated with the different name for the same person which seems a little silly because only a super is going to be chiseled to look like a statue so idk maybe too much it's not like any of the supers are wearing masks!

pretty good a lot of stats

let me start with a nutshell for those speed readers: this series is incomplete and it ventures through sci-fi, disutopian, lit-rpg, and then ends with a super tease of cultivation. a mishmash of all our favorite tropes, but with its incomplete end, and a excessive amount of spicy encounters (in the last 2 books especially), really killed my enjoyment at the end.

Pro list:
-a lot of interesting female Paramores in this book
-a direct tie in to wargod for hire
- a decent progression in power
- a fun story in the overall arch
- new way of doing the superhero origin stories
- a great disutopian beginning
- fun power creation and an interesting power set in this series.

Con list:
- a incomplete story. the author literally tells us about the upcoming book 6 that he NEVER WROTE!
- way too much spice in the last books, and way too little story (literally, half of each book is him getting it on in generally the same way with new girls as he complains repeatedly about his circumstances caused by a serious lack of maturity for a 25 yo with a very street oriented background).
- an Mc who suddenly became a moron when he got power.
- the Mc is obviously protected by a thousand layers of plot armor
- Absolutely unrealistic time management
- only a half developed foundation in powers and whatnot
- obvious plot line
- TERRIBLE VILLIANS!!!

almost great, landed on okay

Pacing is perfect. Especially fight pacing. There doesn’t need to be five phases to a fight where both sides underestimated each other again.

Definitely listen to War God For hire too if you can.
