Sometimes still waters are the most dangerous.
Murder turns a quiet month of shore leave into a nightmare for Chief Engineer Kay Ellis and Captain Magdalene Landon of the Black Flag. When a member of their crew is implicated in the killing of a young woman, the privateers find themselves pawns in an interplanetary diplomatic struggle that predates any of them.
With little evidence to support their claims of innocence, an alien government eager to make examples of the human visitors, and the eyes of two superpowers watching their every move, every passing day brings them closer to ruin.
If they don't find the real killer soon, they’ll swing for a crime they didn't commit. And the Union will be hung out to dry with them.

As the book builds you discover the amazing world that Ford constructs so effortlessly and in such a way that you want to taste the food and hear the music.
And while exploring this foreign world you get to know the secrets of several new characters so that when the main characters are arrested and charged with murder you are fully invested in the world and the new characters.
It’s a magnificent story that takes you on a unique and wonderful journey with not a dull moment.
Also, while there isn’t a typical romance there is a love story at the heart of this book. And I highly recommend it.
Ford has created something utterly magnetic with this story and kept me glued to my earphones for the duration.
Also, this story will work as a stand alone and you don’t have to listen to or read the first book to understand it fully
Such a cool take on the genre
