A exciting book 2 in a fast paced adventure

This was a good listen. The book was different than many apocalyptic adventures that are very violent. This book was a tale of compassion.The loss oss of a loved one; quest for revenge and a surprising twist at the end

The characters are well defined and deal from the emotional side of a person. It spoke a lot about redemption and forgiveness. I liked the fact that the story shifts a lot from the 2 main characters a female with a broken leg in search of her daughter and a guy that had suffered loss in his life and could relate but was largely powerless to do anything to help

In light of the hurricanes in the USA this year and all the loss and destruction it fit in well to current events. People can help each other and work together . Too often we forget there are not just bad people running around looting and such but stories of heroism and caring.

That was similar in theme to the book and a enjoyable end to book 2

The narrator I had not heard before but he did a good performance of reflecting emotions, frustration and anger. He didn't just read the book when the character was angry his speech was short and sharp. The sense of emotion helped the book a great deal to be effective

A Good Story With Some Frustration

It's been some time since the EMP* turned out all the lights and threw the world into the dark.  The cabin that everyone is staying in has kept everyone safe and sound for the time being. But now, a routine hunting trip took a turn for the worst when the weather changes and throws Megan and her new friends into a whole new dynamic.

The story in Dark Hunt was pretty enjoyable.  Everything was a little 'typical' for a Post-Apocalyptic book with a few exceptions.  Normally when you sneak up on another camp they shoot first and ask questions later.  When they got to another camp in this book they seemed to be welcomed with open arms.  Things just seemed to be a little too easy.  Granted, I've read much "easy" books with way less enjoyable characters before, but sometimes I want to see a group of people struggling.

Megan as a character started to rub me the wrong way in this book.  I can't tell if Hamilton was trying to write her this way or if I'm starting to just not like her personality.  She is the definition of running blindly into danger without even thinking about it.  When things start to seem like they're going to take too long -- she just takes off (like a child) running into the darkness trying to save what she has left.  Numerous times this almost has her killer or severely injured (or injured worse than she already was).

I'm happy that the "typical" PA romance took a backseat in Dark Hunt.  This was more about family and what people would do to save family than the actual "new love" that the characters potentially have.

Overall -- I like the series.  It's different enough from the other PA books that I read that I've been enjoying it.  Megan was starting to rub me the wrong way in this one, but the other characters were really enjoyable like before.  People were a little too trusting and I wonder if that will lead to some other issues in later books. I do have at least two more books in this series in my queue, so I'm curious where Hamilton takes the story. I hope that Megan grows as a person and starts to make safer and more adult choices.

*In my last review, I wrote that Hamilton messed up by calling the CME an EMP.  She really only does it once or twice in Dark Hunt so it bothered me a lot less in this one.  I just wish that there was a mini-edit to change EMP to CME in all these books.  I know that the narrations would have to change too, but it's wrong.

Excellent second book!

Great second book in the series. The characters were great and the narrarator did a great job bringing the cgaracters to life. On to the 3rd book!

good book, good info

One of the things I like about this book is it gives out great info about herbs and such. I would think in the case of an EMP this would be great information. ( takes notes)
Its not often that a 2nd book to a series is as good as the first. I believe this book is just as good as the first.
Other then that, the story is good. I kind of think of this as light reading. it keeps you going, but its not a nail bitter. I would read anther book by her again.

Stupid girl runs into danger stupid guy saves her

This is the most annoying series, the story is OK, but every book is about a stupid idiot girl trying to save the world , running into danger that she knows that she can not handle, but she knows that a stupid boy aka fake Rambo will rush in to save the day.

good listen

Annoying main character does annoying things

I didn't listen to/read the first book, but, apart from not knowing why the EMP happened, I didn't feel like I missed much. That being said, the main character was SO annoying. She was self absorbed, like a spoiled teenager. Half of the book seemed like a temper tantrum. The narrator did a good job with what he had to work with.

Entertaining and enjoyable

This is the second book in the series and even though I didn't listen to the first book I had no problem following the storyline or characters. The major events from the first book are gone over enough that you know exactly what is going on. Even though it's a continuation of a series it can basically be read as a standalone story.

I would consider this a survival light story. It's an entertaining and engaging story with a bit of suspense and mystery without constant outside conflict. It's a more believable survival scenario than many stories. In respects to where they are, how they are surviving, the other survivors that are in their immediate area and the relationship with those survivors. It also has some very interesting and useful information on things such as herbs or adapting to your surroundings and the tools you have available.

Interesting and well rounded cast of characters. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. I haven't quite decided on Megan. I'm torn. Some of her decisions are questionable at best. At the same time she is thinking as a mother and is willing to do whatever it takes to find her child as any mother would do. As everyone knows you never get between a mother and her child. At the same time she put herself and others in danger repeatedly that had consequences.

There are a few things that didn't add up in the story. Most notably the severity of injuries and the amount of time it takes to recover or the things they are able to do with those injuries.

Andrew Tell did a great job with the narration. Nice voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Good character voices. Both male and female. Each character had a distinct voice. I'm really glad he didn't try to do a high pitched female voice. It was easy to tell which character was speaking with just a change in tone and cadence. He was able to bring the characters and story to life through his narration. Very enjoyable.

A Spoiled Self Absorbed Twit Still Survives

I didn't read the first book of this series, but I don't feel that I missed anything. Evidently there was an EMP and the main character and her daughter survivied. How they did this I am not sure. If this book is any indication she should have been dead the first week. Bad choices, self absorbed behavior and selfish actions characterize her. Most of the time she seems to think like a spoiled teenager, even when people are trying to help her. Her mental conversations are painful. She gets mad, throws a temper tantrum, sometimes apologizes and does it again. Rash actions without thinking of consequences to others are the norm. Others around her seem to do fine, but are impacted by her childish behavior.
This in addition to unrealistic situations and mistakes in the plot made this a difficult book to endure. For instance the daughter of the main character is badly injured, has stitches, gets and infection, cries out in pain when sitting up and shortly after they plan to walk through the woods. People seem to recover in unrealistically short periods of time, and perform physical activity outside their capability.
Much of the thinking of the characters, mood swings, odd dialog and bad choices make this one a swing and a miss.

Good Sequel to the First Book

Grace Hamilton has provided a decent sequel to her first book in what is so far a four book series in her post EMP world. Megan is trying to settle into the newfound safe situation but is too independent for her own good. She is having trouble admitting her own growing feelings for Wyatt which maybe could her judgment. Megan gets separated from Caitling during a storm and they find later she was kidnapped. Megan needs help from the group to get her back. I recommend this book even with the 4-star rating I don't give it 5 just cause Megan and her female drama frakking drives me nuts at times.

Andrew Tell delivers another outstanding performance with this story. It was a pleasure to hear this great performance.
