Acerca de esta escucha

Runic Awakening is the first book in the Runic series, a contemporary epic fantasy series set in the world of Doma, where magical engineers called Runics rule the land. They are equaled in power only by Weavers, men and women that can manipulate the very fabric of the universe with their wills.

Torn from his home on Earth by an unknown power, Kyle finds himself stranded on a strange world. A world where magical engineers called Runics have created the Empire, the greatest civilization ever known.

Taken under the wing of a wealthy politician named Kalibar, Kyle is thrust into a dark conspiracy to overthrow the Empire...and murder Kalibar. Hunted by a sadistic undead overlord called the Dead Man, Kyle must learn to master the power of magical runes to keep Kalibar alive...and to save Ariana, a brave, mysterious girl whose powers the Dead Man plans to exploit.

If Kyle fails, the Empire will fall...and he'll be trapped in this strange world forever!

I found that this book was a little harder to keep with especially towards the end it was whiny whiny whiny and some of the stuff that the character new he just didn't think it was quite annoying there were several points where the character was told something the method that's unusual and the Never capitalizes on that information so it's an okay book

I see a lot of other reviews complaining about the MC. He's a kid. 10 iirc and he acts like it. There's a lot of development in the second book of the series. Great secondary characters with unique personalities.
I've read a lot of fantasy and this book kept me guessing. which was refreshing.
Fairly well developed magic system for those who are into that. Most of the events take place in just a few areas but those are pretty well fleshed out.
Narrator was good. Not particularly memorable but nothing that would distract you from the story.
Just finished the second book and can't wait for my next set of credits to get the third. Definitely worth the listen.

Give it a chance

if you are expecting an intuitive main character then look elsewhere. this one spends 90% of the time stammering, falling on his butt, forgetting to use his magic instead of just calling other people's name etc

MC spends most of the book afraid and on his butt

loved it. Really great story. I couldn't get enough and am looking forward to book 2.

fantasy at its finest

While Kyle may be a strong in theory, he's actually one of weakest designed characters I have ever come across, in fact, I've seen better background characters. While gifted with what should be immense power he does nothing to use it in defense of others, instead choosing to cry in a corner like a child.

horrible character development.

The premise of the story is thoroughly enjoyable, in fact it is so that it can't be listening and will continue to have me listening to the next books in the series despite the horrific writing style. Or rather the lack of any writing style. I would expect this kind of writing from a fifth grader not a professional author. The entire story is written in a manner, such that the author or narrator simply tells you what is happening rather than showing you. Occasionally Wood remembers to include some details but they are for the most part plain and boring. Would it kill the guy to describe Darius's eyes as something other than just Blue? But I digress, it is still a very interesting read simply due to the creative premise of the story, as well as the well-thought-out execution in the telling. So long as you can stand the poor descriptions and passive voice used throughout the story, it's well worth a read. If not for the authors poor writing style this book would easily be a five star book, but as it is written with the same level of skill as a fifth grader and fortunately cannot give it that kind of review.

Good story terrible writing.

Struggled to finish is right. It was one ridiculous situation after another, and horribly graphic.

Dialogue sounds like written by a 13 y/o boy.
