Ellen and her two best friends share a mid-life crisis by hatching a plan to renovate an 1860s Greek revival in the nearby historic district of San Antonio.

Although Ellen isn't one to believe in ghosts, she comes face to face with something inexplicable in the attic. Her ghost-enthusiast friends convince her that they must help the spirit find closure, and as they dig deeper into the past, they uncover a shocking history that someone in the neighborhood doesn't want exposed.

But Ellen and her friends don't give up easily. They realize they've been called to give voice to the invisible women who suffered behind the walls of the house for decades.

This was a different mystery than I am used to. The narrator did a pretty good job. There were a few times I couldn’t distinguish who was talking but overall it was good. The three main friends were good but there were times when they got a little bland and I spaced out a bit. I liked getting to learn the history of the house and about its past along with those who used to live in it. At times the pacing got a little slow and bogged down in certain details it I did enjoy their friendships and wanted to know what would happen next. There were some twists I didn’t see coming but the ending felt a little rushed and unrealistic for the trauma some of the characters had been through. Over all I did enjoy this audio book and am curious to see what happens to these three friends next. The author had a good story and an intriguing start to a series.

I received this audiobook free in exchange for an honest review.

An interesting start to a mystery series

This mystery story is sure to keep you entertained. Three board empty-nesters plan to buy the Greek style Gold House in the historic district of San Antonio, and restore it to its former 1860’s glory. Ghostly figures, hidden treasure, a shocking history and a house full of secrets makes this flip project much more challenging and dangerous than the girls could ever have expected.
Ellen, Sue and Tanya are all believable characters with every day problems and unique personalities. They are believable and life like. When they encounter a ghostly presence and the dark, convoluted history of the house, their nerves are stretched and their curiosity aroused. I loved that they did not back down from the challenge and worked to both solve the mystery and expose the houses secrets. The author herself narrated the audiobook and she did a great job. She gave the characters individual voices and enhanced my enjoyment of the story. This is an enjoyable mystery story with likeable, authentic people and a house full of secrets.

I wasn't drawn into this story. The reading was stilted, the accents strained. Disappointed.

Bland

Consistently mispronounced dilapidated, as well as decapitated, among others. No “voices”...Definitely not a professional reader. Improved immensely by the end. Occasionally monotone...Story fair. Lots more words than necessary.

Sad
