When I opened my eyes, I was in a cell, my body covered in bruises.
Not a jail.
I'd been kidnapped and imprisoned.
I wasn't alone. I shared the cell with Garin Woods, the man I'd loved since I was a kid.
The man I couldn't be with because of the secret. A man who would kill me if he found out what that secret was.
Someone wanted to torture me.
Torture us.
One of us deserved it.
It wasn't Garin.

I'm on the fence with this one. There were things I really liked and some that I didn't like as much. I do enjoy a dark romance book, I do even enjoy a kidnapping, I do enjoy a Anti-Hero! This book had all of those things. I spent most of the book convinced I knew what was happening and in the end I was right but the author did have me questioning it a lot through out the book. I had a little bit of a hard time with how Kyle reacted to the imprisonment, I needed her to be a little more freaked out by it and I needed her to be at least a little scared but instead she acted like she was just curious. The biggest oddity for me was how no matter what they did to her, she was all about having sex when it was over, I guess I couldn't really see that as realistic. I liked the twists and turns the author added to this story even though they were obvious instead of surprising.
Garin was a contradiction for sure. He was mad at her for lying but he was lying. He wanted her to come clean when he had no plans to come clean. He said he loved her and would protect her but who exactly was he protecting her from... the way I see it, she needed protection from him. In the end I gave this book 3.5 stars, it was better than average and had me intrigued from the beginning but it left me feeling a little flat in the end.
The narration was AMAZING! Aaron Shedlock is a great narrator and he was a great choice for this story.Since this is a Dual POV I probably would have liked dual narration a little better but it didn't take away from the story at all.
3.5 stars - Good Dark Story with a Great Narrator!

The heroine: Kyle - she grew up in the projects in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She hung out with her two best friends, Garin and Billy. They had parents who spent all their money on drugs and partying, so the kids were used to hustling for money for food and anything they needed. Garin was a drug dealer, Billy was a thief, and they did all they could to take care of Kyle, who was always too cold and too skinny. Kyle and Garin were always in love, but something happened back then, on the night they first kissed. Billy’s brother died and Kyle left Atlantic City not long after that.
The Hero: Garin - back when they were young, he had plans of moving to Las Vegas to work after high school. He planned on taking Kyle with him and seeing if she could attend college in Vegas. On that last night, he was in the shower when he heard the shot, he ran outside and saw Billy’s brother Paulie dying in the street and Kyle nowhere to be found. Now, years later, Billy died from an overdose, and they are both home for the funeral. Garin is determined to find out what happened.
The Story: Garin and Kyle go out for drinks after the funeral and the two of them wake up in a prison cell. Kyle felt guilty because she knew she should be there, but that Gavin was innocent. They have both been trapped by events in the past. Kyle wanted Gavin to know her secret, but she knew a secret like that could get her killed, so she wasn’t about to give it up. This story was a complete surprise, which I liked, it isn’t often that a book is so unpredictable and surprising
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Aaron Shedlock. I really enjoy his voice, and as far as solo narration goes, he does a great job. The voice he uses for female characters isn’t bad at all. Plus, I love his deep, soft voice for male characters as well.
Surprisingly good!

Narator Aaron Shedlock is the perfect choice for a dark story narator. However, in this case the story is told in dual pov and the naration by one narator is a bit of a disappointment. Aaron is perfect for the male pov but I wish a female was chosen to narate the female parts especially since alot of the story is told in the female's pov. Aaron's inflection is very deep and gravely which is great for this performance.

Mann rocked this book. She gave us an incredibly emotionally, psychological book that at times disturbed me while also turning me on! That has to be a talent, right? Then we have the narrator, Aaron Shedlock... I was really impressed with how well he portrayed Garin. Shedlock really did a fantastic job working a dual POV when he was the only narrator.
Wow Mann!!

I had an idea about this story and how everything was going to go down but it just never grasped hold but I was right in the end.
I like dark and twisty so for a good part of the book I was hooked then a few things happened and even my dark and twisty took a step back. But what kept me going was the narration.
Aaron just had a tone that soothes you and makes you take notice of what is going on. I very much liked his female tone that he uses, because then it makes his male character even that more lush to listen to.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
