I felt the overall story was quite engaging, if not confusing at times. The structure seemed a bit odd where the fist half of the book the Alliance dominated the Jung and the second half of the book tried to make up for that imbalance. Some spaceship chase sequences were particularly implausible where two experienced pilots get put to shame by a newbie soldier recruit.

Jessica is still being possessed by some sort of madness. The only plausible way the to explain her continued uncharacteristic behavior is perhaps to come up with a rationalization that she might be an abuser of stims or some other performance enhancing drugs which could explain why she's acting so strangely the last couple of books.

Personally I was looking toward a cathartic ending but there's a cliffhanger instead.

Overall however, I felt too many story arks were in this book were filler and that detracted from the overall scheme of things.

Plot Convenience > Plausibility

Hard for me to be objective being so invested in this universe. All I can say is that I can't wait for more. The relationships between Nathan, Vlad, and Jess are great in this book.

I guess my only complaint is that, well, we're now 15 books into this series. Nathan has matured, Vlad has matured, many other characters have grown into well rounded characters. Jessica has not changed at all, she still acts like a child despite her elite training and all they've gone through. it's a little annoying and unbelievable in this universe. How am I supposed to buy that Jess would break rank to Tellis, whine like a child and lose her temper when given direct orders after EVERYTHING that's happened up to this point. Hopefully next book she will be more rounded like the other main characters.

The saga continues!

The story was sometimes hard to follow. Narration of the story sounded like the narrator was READ ING a script most of the time. Not saying the narrator was a terrible narrator, just that perhaps this type of story didn't match the narrator's natural demeanor.
