Lisa Gardner's runaway New York Times bestseller - a fast-paced thrill ride featuring Detective D. D. Warren.

Seven years ago, carefree college student Flora Dane was kidnapped while on spring break. For 472 days, Flora learned just how much one person can endure.

Miraculously alive after her ordeal, Flora has spent the past five years reacquainting herself with the rhythms of normal life, working with her FBI victim advocate, Samuel Keynes. She has a mother who’s never stopped loving her, a brother who is scared of the person she’s become, and a bedroom wall covered with photos of other girls who’ve never made it home.

When Boston detective D. D. Warren is called to the scene of a crime - a dead man and the bound, naked woman who killed him - she learns that Flora has tangled with three other suspects since her return to society. Is Flora a victim or a vigilante? And with her firsthand knowledge of criminal behavior, could she hold the key to rescuing a missing college student whose abduction has rocked Boston? When Flora herself disappears, D.D. realizes a far more sinister predator is out there. One who’s determined that this time, Flora Dane will never escape. And now it is all up to D. D. Warren to find her.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"As Flora, [narrator Kirsten] Potter transitions from the fragile tones of a survivor to her fearful, desperate thoughts while being held by her captor. Portraying Warren, Potter projects confidence and excitement as the detective uses her intuition to get to the bottom of the case. Each snappy remark adds power and validity to this strong character while engaging the listener." ( AudioFile)

This psychological mystery is fascinating. It's about the kidnapping and maltreatment of Flora who was placed in a pine box for days and weeks on end with little water and food. Just when she begins to accept that living with her captor will be the rest of her life, she is rescued.

Stockholm Syndrome is the phenomenon in which victims of trauma, such as kidnapping, sympathizes with their captors as a mechanism for survival and to manage their fear. Did Flora suffer Stockholm Syndrome? That is the question because later we learn that maybe, perhaps she did not...not really but she learned to survive.

This a twisted and horrific story about Flora who was kidnapped, rescued and kidnapped again 7 years later. During the 7 years, Flora learned a thing or two about self-defense. the story is primarily about the second kidnapping with interesting flashbacks to the first time she was kidnapped.

In the opening scenes of this highly engaging, edge of your seat mystery/suspense, Flora demonstrates the depth of her self-defense and survival skills. There was never a dull moment. I finished this listen in record time .... into the night listening and rooting for Flora and wanting DD Warren to hurry up and figure things out before it was too late!

Kirsten Potter's narration was spot on... excellent!

Highly Recommend....

Psychological Mystery ~ Stockholm Syndrome?

It was hard to stop listening to this book! I loved the way the story centred around the victim and her efforts to help other victims. The detectives had their own background stories going on and it was all interesting and believable. A few unexpected twists just made it more delicious.

Loved it

Any additional comments?

The victim starts off locked in box and from there, things go downhill for the heroine. By virtue of the written word and the narrator's inflection, I felt like I was in the box myself! Gripping and horrific. I highly recommend this book to any who can handle the tense created by the storytelling. I don't often write reviews but this one deserves a listen!

I was there!

The same women is abducted 4-5 times in over 5 years by 5 different people, yah right! The mystery part had me hooked.

Far-fetched but entertaining

I almost put this down. It was very very hard to get thru the prologue. It was terrifying. Especially if you claustrophobic.
I fought it, mostly because I was safe in my bed, and because I knew this was gonna be one of Lisa Gardner's best.
I wasn't disappointed. It was so good I read it in one day. I couldn't put it down. It's a story that could and probably has happened. That's why it's so terrifying and sad for me. Females of all ages should always be cautious, aware of your surroundings and carry protection.

Breathtaking suspense
