“An incredibly beautiful read.” – Seattle Post-Intelligencer

How do we find the courage to be true to ourselves—even if we are unsure of who we are? A novel of daring and unconventional living by the author of The Alchemist.

The Witch of Portobello tells the story of Athena — born in Transylvania, adopted, raised across continents — a woman whose fierce spiritual gifts and refusal to conform made her magnetic to some and deeply threatening to others. We meet her after her death, through the voices of those who knew her: her mother, her ex-husband, her lovers, her disciples, her enemies. Each account contradicts the others. None of them, alone, tells the whole truth.

What emerges is the portrait of a woman on an uncompromising quest to understand the divine feminine — through dance, through ritual, through the ancient traditions she sought out and embodied — and the world's complicated response to a woman who lived that openly and that freely.

The Witch of Portobello is a transporting read that will challenge you to find the courage it takes to be true to yourself, even when — especially when — you're not sure who that is yet.

Not one negative thing to say about this.

The performance was lovely. I enjoyed the character development that the voice actor portrayed. Each character had a distinct voice, not just sound of voice, but living voice. But the writing offered depth for such development. This wasn’t a book that I knew each next step before it happened, and I loved that. I will be listening to this again and will get a copy to read as well.

Interesting take on Religion, Love, and Tolerance

Very different style compared to his other books however its well written and the story is put together very well.

Great story! Not what I expected!

I’ll start off by saying that I’m a huge fan of Paulo Coelho, so I may be a little biased. I thought the story what great. I like that they took the time to fully develop the main character! The reason I gave it 5 stars is because I went into expecting the story to go a certain way, and when it finally seemed like it was finally heading in that direction it took on an entirely different direction and I thought that was brilliant of the author! If you like stories of self discovery, this is the book for you!

Very good !
