Story
Spiritual Power of Man's Word Man's word is Spirit in man. Words are sounds occasioned by the vibrations of thoughts. Thoughts are vibrations sent forth by the Ego or Soul. Every word that leaves your mouth ought to be potent with your genuine soul vibration. Words in most people are lifeless because they are automatically put forth into the ether, without being impregnated with soul force. Too much talking, exaggeration or falsehood used in connection with words is just like shooting bullets out of a toy gun, without the gun powder.

Story
What is karma? Most people understand karma as a balance sheet of good and bad deeds, virtues and sins. The mechanism that decrees that we cannot evade the consequences of our own actions. In reality, karma has nothing to do with reward and punishment. Karma simply means action: your action, your responsibility. It isn’t some external system of crime and punishment, but an internal cycle generated by you. Accumulation of karma is determined only by your intention and the way you respond to what is happening to you.

The author Sri "M" is an extraordinary individual. His uniqueness lies not only in the fact that at the young age of 19 and a half, he travelled to snow-clad Himalayas from Kerala, and there he met and lived for several years with a "real-time" yogi, Babaji, but also that he should undertake such an unusual and adventurous exploration, given his non-Hindu birth and antecedents. The metamorphosis of Mumtaz Ali Khan into Sri "M", a yogi with profound knowledge of the Upanishads and deep personal insights, is born of first-hand experiences with higher levels of consciousness....

Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

The purpose of this audiobook is to show as clearly as possible that there is an essential unity in all religions; that there is no difference in the truths inculcated by the various faiths; that there is but one method by which the world, both external and internal, has evolved; and that there is but one goal admitted by all scriptures.

Publisher's Summary
This audiobook, the version of which was first published in 1946, helped launch a spiritual revolution in the West. Only rarely does a sage of Paramhansa Yogananda's stature write a firsthand account of his life experiences. Followers of many religious traditions have come to recognize Autobiography of a Yogi as a masterpiece of spiritual literature. Yet, for all its depth, it is full of gentle humor, lively stories, and practical common sense. Now, with this audiobook, the 1946 edition is again available, with all its inherent power, just as the great master of yoga first presented it.

The best and most beautifully rendered version!!!
What does Swami Kriyananda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Swami Kriyananda gave the story a very authentic voice. Compared to other audiobook versions of Autobiography of a Yogi, this one sounds the most beautiful and most powerful. Most of the time I was fooled into blissfully believing that it was really Yogananda speaking. Again, it sounded very authentic and even sacred. I would highly recommend picking this version over the others!

Wisdom; Knowledge; Humbling.
It didn't take long to accustom the the dialect of the narrator, then I really found his voice soothing and heart opening to listen to.
As for the book, its starts off slow, but it is worth hanging in. The second half of the book is a treasure of experiences and learning. Overall it is an amazing story. Really gives us "mere mortals" a perspective of where we are on the journey to enlightenment, and the potential that lays within all of us. Inspiring! It would appeal to a person serious about their spiritual development. It expanded my mind well beyond what it was before listening this truly amazing autobiography.

Great book!
Very spiritually uplifting book, full of precious and sacred accounts of great saints of India. Very entertaining , very simple to read and left me with an increased sense of devotion towards my own spiritual life and Guru.
I also love that the narrator is a spiritually oriented person, meditator and especially spent time with the author himself and follows his teachings, that makes for a more sincere and enjoyable read from the narrator.
Also, a plus of the audiobook vs book is that i can be in deep meditation while listening, which enhances powerfully the experience , and makes me feel like I am really there, Sri Yukteshwar s explanations of the higher worlds just blew me away!

Kriyananda Reads As If Yogananda Guided Him
Swami Kriyananda's reading of this spiritual classic by Paramhansa Yogananda exemplifies the continuation of the great master's message of Self-Realization to the world. It was like Yogananda himself was reading this holy scripture. I was touched deeply by Kriyananda's vocal clarity, diction, and the pronunciation of the Sanskrit, Hindi and Benagali words. I was thrilled from start to finish to listen to Kriyananda's reading of this timeless Autobiography of a Yogi!

Not for a rational mind
I decided to listen to this audio-book after I read in Steve Jobs biography that was his favourite read. Sadly I cannot digest Autobiography of Yogi. Perhaps I should not read in those stories literally and take it with a pinch of salt.
According to Steve Jobs biography he decided to undertake the anti-cancer therapy when it was already too late. What SJ did instead? He believed that eating apples will cure him. And honestly, all I can think of now is that if you believe in this book you can easily believe that eating apples will heal all your maladies.

Very interesting book, but not life changing
Fascinating insight into Indian philosophy, yoga and Hinduism.
I now understand the appeal, but don't personally find the belief system attractive. As someone who has read numerous Christian missionary biographies, I couldn't help but see this book as an example of Hindu/Yogic proselytism.
The narrator was pretty good, but sometimes the recording was a bit too echoey making some sections difficult to understand.
