Publisher's Summary

Haunted by the horrors of war, ex-cavalry officer Matthew Hanger leads a band of mercenaries known as Hanger's Horsemen who have become legends in 1890s Texas.

They defend the innocent and obtain justice for the oppressed. But when a rustler's bullet leaves one of them at death's door, they're the ones in need of saving. Dr. Josephine Burkett is used to men taking one look at her skirts and discounting her medical skills. What she's not used to is having a man change his mind in a heartbeat and offer to assist her in surgery. Matthew Hanger's dedication to his friend during recovery earns Josephine's respect, and when she hears of her brother's abduction, he becomes her only hope for rescue.

Matt has stared down ruthless outlaws, betrayal, and injury, but when a bossy lady doctor crawls under his skin, his heart is tempted to surrender. And when she is caught in the crossfire, he may have to sacrifice everything - even his team - to save her.

Speed of the horse; the passion of true love

A page turner! Karen’s pace creates excitement and her word choice allowed me to feel the dust, hear the bullets, and sit forward in the saddle until all enemies were defeated and redemption came. As a lover of Jesus I enjoyed how Karen wove the characters spiritual side into the narrative. Julie Caton

Love this series!!!

I love any book that Karen writes. She develops her character so well and it’s just such a clean story some thing that you could listen to even with children around and I love that about her writing. I can’t wait to see what lucky member of the horsemen gets hitched next!

Thoroughly Enjoyed

This is a wonderful and believable love story. It’s action packed and hard to put down. The characters are well developed and you feel what they are feeling. I highly recommend this faith-filled novel to anyone who loves God and loves a romantic western.

If you like sappy

If you like sappy stories, you’ll like this one. It was way too sappy for my taste—as evidenced by the eye-roll litmus test—but I did like the storyline and characters. I kept wanting the author to get to the point or the action and not talk so much about the nuances of the relationship. Trite little phrases like, "He deepened the kiss," get old. Is there no other way to describe it?

The narrator was very good and had good voices for the characters. It was perhaps her ability to feel the emotions that added to my discontent with the sappiness. I often am disappointed when narrators do not put enough emotion into their performance, but in this one aspect I wished things had been omitted from the manuscript.

I liked the humor in the epilogue.

Nice Story

Karen Witemeyer is my go to if I want me some good old christian fiction story about sweet love with happy ending .. and this one was just that
So the story is about Matt who is a Ex-cavalry officer sworn to protect the innocent with his four horsemen .. one day one of his men gets shot so he brings him to Doctor Jo .. who is Josephine .. after a series of events Josephine hires Matt to rescue her brothers from some kidnappers, and the story goes from there

The story is purely romantic 100% and that was what I wanted from it .. so it was nice enough for me

The narrator was nice and I liked her performance :)
