The Shepherd’s Heart by Tracie Peterson is a tender, second chance romance involving a spinster, a widowed sheep rancher, & his two children set in the Wyoming wilderness. After being left at the alter, Angellyn thinks she’s lost her chance of being married until her neighbor Granny Duran convinces her to marry her recently widowed grandson who needs help with his ranch & two young children. Like the angel appearing to the shepherds, Angel travels to Wyoming to marry Vincent. She brings hope & healing as she & Vincent survive the harsh Wyoming winter & help two grieving children. This story was especially poignant. I appreciated how the author balanced raw emotions with romance, a touch of humor, & faith.
In No Room At the Inn by Misty M. Beller, Author Hope Palmer & her brother Martin offer shelter to stranded stagecoach passengers at their Split Rock Inn in Nebraska Territory. Unfortunately, due to a fire, they don’t have much except an extra room & their barn. Noah Bentwood who never expected to fall in love grows closer to Hope as they search for a missing heirloom knife. I throughly enjoyed this love at first sight, strangers to more romance, & cozy mystery.
A Star in the West by Author Karen Witemeyer was my favorite & a clever twist on the Three Wisemen following the star. Stella Barrington’s grown close to a Harvard mathematics professor after corresponding through letters. When he arrives in Waco, Texas with his two colleagues, Frank Stentz has plans to court Stella, but can he convince her he’s serious? Stella sees herself as plain & too tall, but her opinion changes when the logical professor proves his admiration. I loved Stella & Frank! Both have their own quirks & insecurities, but are prefect for each other. Full of humor, sweet romance, & a bit of suspense when an abandoned baby’s found, this story really captured my heart.
I enjoyed the audiobook version. The narrator did a good job bringing these characters to life. To me, the narrator’s voice sounded a bit older than the characters’ she was narrating, but that’s just a personal preference.
Highly recommend this darling collection! 4.5-5 stars.
A clever anthology based on the Nativity!
