Publisher's summary

Too often when we come to the Bible, we settle for easy answers. We move quickly toward the allure of resolution. But when we ask the questions the Bible is asking, we will do these things instead:

  • understand the Eastern perspective of words, numbers, and core principles like eternal life, truth, sin, and faith
  • recognize the literary devices and the reclamation of stories used in the Torah
  • read the historical books both as inspiration and as cautionary tales
  • interpret the distinct genres in Wisdom Literature, such as psalms and proverbs
  • decipher the unique elements of prophetic literature
  • perceive the often tongue-in-cheek nature of the Gospel accounts
  • view the New Testament letters as inspired, authoritative interpretation of the story of God

Great book! Adds depth to faith!

Marty gives readers so much context to scripture. He doesn’t take anything away from the Bible we know, but he adds dimension, which makes it come alive and relevant in knew ways.

Marty at His Best

Marty Solomon’s podcasts have created an entirely new realm in my pursuit of Jesus. Now, he uses much of his podcasts to reference & illustrate this book. Therefore, I found the book to be a wonderful reiteration of the teachings in the podcasts. That being said, those comments are in no wise meant to say that’s all this book contains! Far from it! He brings in some HUGE information & elaboration on ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS that has me reading this book for the second time, with highlighter, thesaurus, Torah, & Tanakh—Nevi’im & Ketuvim. Oh Marty! My soul blesses the Lord for this work He’s wrought by way of your “hands” and all the knowledge, experience & devotion to THE TEXT. So glad you did this!!!!

An approach to the Bible we all need.

I dare say asking better questions will not only help our walk with the Bible but also our walk in life. I took a class at my work on how to ask better questions it opened my eyes to just how important it is and how dangerous our assumptions can be. I also learned that I had some pretty bad habits around how I asked questions, I would often want to start with the why questions but I learned that those types of questions are rarely helpful and are typically divisive. To truly get to better answers you have to start with better questions and ones that are inclusive and open by nature. Thank you Marty for your brave and wonderful work done here. I am looking forward to listening to this book over and over again as I Haggah it. Much love, Cory

Correction

The review by Trish was actually by her husband, Tom, who used her Audiobook to listen to Asking Better Questions of the Bible.

Humble and grounding

An overall perspective of biblical study that frees up my learned narrative. The push to be uncomfortable in the not knowing was awakening
