There is a church not too far from us that recently added a $25 million addition to their building. Our local newspaper ran a front-page story not too long ago about a study revealing that one in five people in our city lives in poverty. This is a book about those two numbers.

It's a book about faith and fear, wealth and war, poverty, power, safety, terror, Bibles, bombs, and homeland insecurity. It's about empty empires and the truth that everybody's a priest, it's about oppression, occupation, and what happens when Christians support, animate, and participate in the very things Jesus came to set people free from. It's about what it means to be a part of the church of Jesus in a world where some people fly planes into buildings, while others pick up groceries in Hummers.

Well done!

This fresh commentary on the Old Testament and how it relates to the Jesus story is a must read for anyone genuinely interested in modern spirituality. I've read and enjoyed other books by Bell, but this one tops my list.

I needed this book

This book delivers a message that the western Church has to hear. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Another liberating, inspiring, illuminating read

Chewing on it still. Such a prescient book for.our times. So well constructed and grounded in sound theology. Wish the chirch would hear it...but perhaps it has and the rest are just busy with their bricks and temples and walls.

great message with conviction! great information told with gusto! I highly recommend! Their narration felt like a conversation between friends which made it great to listen to!

Purpose of the Church

What did you love best about Jesus Wants to Save Christians?

Towards the end of the book, Bell addresses and defines the Eucharist. This interpretation is one I have never heard. I find his investigation deep, enlightening, and challenging. He also gives an awesome definition of the Church and how believers should respond as both a part of the community and as an individual. Bell does a great job summing up what following Christ is all about and in readdressing what "Christianity" should look like. His pithy comments also help move the book along.

So needed during this time in history. I recommend it at least once a month!

This is a book that ties it all together in the end. Give it a chance.

Love how they tell this story. *So* understandable from someone who left "the church" knowing there had to be more. Also, their ad lib during reading is great.

A great story told a new way

I liked it and for me it was thought provoking. Some will find it too liberal. But I was looking for a new view of what the church could be. Two thumbs up!!

Try to read....

this and not be changed. The audiobook is so powerful. Listening to the authors' voices I think makes a big difference.
