Publisher's Summary

Everything’s bigger in Alaska, especially the HEAs. Annabeth Albert kicks off the brand-new Frozen Hearts series with Arctic Sun, an opposites-attract romance between a rugged outdoorsman and a smoking-hot former male model.

He’s built a quiet life for himself in Alaska. But it doesn’t stand a chance against the unrelenting pull of a man who’s everything he shouldn’t want.

Ex-military mountain man Griffin Barrett likes his solitude. It keeps him from falling back into old habits. Bad habits. He’s fought too hard for his sobriety to lose control now. However, his gig as a wildlife guide presents a new kind of temptation in super-hot supermodel River Vale. Nothing the Alaskan wilderness has to offer has ever called to Griffin so badly. That can only lead to trouble....

River has his own methods for coping. Chasing adventure means always moving forward. Nobody’s ever made him want to stand still - until Griffin. The rugged bush pilot is the very best kind of distraction, but the emotions he stirs up in River feel anything but casual, and he’s in no position to stay put.

With temptation lurking in close quarters, keeping even a shred of distance is a challenge neither’s willing to meet. And the closer Griffin gets to River, the easier it is to ignore every last reason he should run.

One-click with confidence. This title is part of the Carina Press Romance Promise: all the romance you’re looking for with an HEA/HFN. It’s a promise!

Publisher’s note: Arctic Sun deals with topics some listeners may find difficult, including sobriety and eating disorders.

The Start of a Great Series

I love stories of Alaska. Griffin is a bear of a man who doesn’t do people. River is a former model who became a world traveler trying to heal his demons. Having to act as tour guide for a photo journey of Alaska is a way for Griffin to meet River and possibly connect with life. A sweet romance and performance. Recommend.

Boring!!

Omg!! I could NOT finish this audiobook. The pace of this story was so slow, not sure how any one stayed awake to listen. Not much experience with Cooper North narrating but, it'd be nice if you could tell the difference between the characters. I was really expecting this to be a lot better. Something different with the drinking and eating disorder. Don't waste your credit or your time. I really hate to write bad reviews.

Alaska 💙

This book, more than anything, made me want to go to Alaska even more. The places described, they’re beautiful. The experiences during the tour, priceless.

Then there’s River and Griffin. Two flawed people who are at, quite probably, in the most fragile state they’ve ever been, because they’re about to be vulnerable to each other. The blurb is about 30% of the story. It evolves into something more, something real, something deeper.

This story is quite simply about two imperfect men growing stronger together. 💙

Cooper North did a good job with his narration.

Feel bad saying but... it was boring

I literally didn't get into the book until the 7th hour and even then I had to force myself to pay attention. The book is seriously lacking in a spark and is quite boring in all honesty.

Hoping the rest are better

Good start to a new series.

I enjoyed this one. I think there was a bit in the middle that was quite slow but picked up again near the end. The chemistry in some parts felt a bit off but overall was good. I will be getting the next one in the series.

Grumpy Griff was my fav character

While I did mainly enjoy the overall story and slow developing relationship between Griffin and River, there were parts of the story that were pretty slow going - I don't just mean the relationship between the 2 men (I love a good slow burn romance), but the actual story itself was slow and it didn't feel like much was happening at times.

I did like the start of the story, where Griffin and River meet due to grumpy Griff being the wildlife guide for a tour River is taking part in. River quickly sets his sights on the grumpy and reserved Griff, and they start to develop more of a connection. River and Griff really enjoy spending time together, but can they make a relationship work long term when their lives are so different, and River in particular struggles with the expectations others have of him.

Both of the main characters had very serious addiction and eating disorder issues that have impacted them in the past and continue to have an influence in the present. Griffin who worked hard to kick his alcohol dependency, and River with an eating disorder. Those factors are an important part of the storyline, and are mentioned frequently throughout the story. It was really sweet at times how focused Griffin was on making sure there were choices available for River that he would be comfortable with food wise.

I'm glad I listened to the audio of Arctic Sun, I enjoyed the performance by Cooper North. He made it easy to tell which character was talking at times, with Griffin having a slightly deeper voice than River.

A beautifully and emotional adventure!

I love Annabeth’s writing and this one is exceptional. A fun-loving premise with a deep undertone of real-life issues and struggles. River and Griff are such deep and dynamic characters, I felt for both of them!! Griff struggle with his sobriety and River fights his eating disorder. Annabeth took such care with these issues and characters while keeping them so very real. If these are issues you struggle with, be warned as Annabeth’s writing is emotionally real that it could be confronting. I was moved by the reality found in these characters and their issues and she didn’t shy away from the real world environments these issues can stem from and ‘thrive’ in. The complex dynamics of River’s eating disorder are confronting at times but injected with so much emotion and truth; it is hard to ask or seek help sometimes.

This is a story of healing and dealing with your issues. They will never go away but they can be managed with the right love and supports. I liked that this story felt more real and true. It’s not a fluffy, ride off into the sunset story. It’s a real-life struggle to heal, address and manage your issues every day while trying to live your life. If you’re lucky enough to find your person along the way then you have something else to fight for. River and Griff are lucky to have found each other and I loved the very real journey to healing and happiness!! Another fantastic story from Annabeth!!

Thanks for reading!
