Publisher's summary

After forming a pact with the ghost of a former student, Lee Amaranth has gained a limited amount of spellcasting ability. It’s anyone’s guess how far three spells per day will take him. Now that he’s serving as an apprentice to Harper, his sister’s former lover and the school’s resident ice queen, the expectations on him are higher than ever.

The mystery of what happened to Zoe remains at the forefront of Lee’s mind. When new clues start turning up, he follows them, regardless of where they lead. A new threat, a new damsel in distress, and a new dilemma. Lee is forced to juggle his studies, romance, and detective work all while maintaining his guise as a mage.

WARNING: This novel contains graphic sex scenes between the main character and numerous women/succubi/monster girls.

Insanely frustrating story

The author tries too hard to create conflict that isn't there and it's frustrating. Other than that major flaw it's pretty good.

Love this book

The book, storyline, characters and development is fantastic. I love the voice actress, Alex Ford, too. She does amazing voices and accents.

Hughes hasn't f****d this one up Thank God!

Every book I've read by this author has ALWAYS had an MC that is spineless and unable to make his own decisions confidently. While this MC has no real power to speak of and must borrow power like every other MC he creates, this one doesn't whine and complain like his others which is actually why I enjoyed this one. The MC will still make stupid choices, but they're somewhat palatable and 10x less infuriating than, oh say, Jack Masterson. So a big round of applause for Lee having a little backbone. It went a long way in this series so far.

The Plot thickens

hmmm. There seems to be connections with another book, but cannot say for sure if the deal maker is the same guy or not... here is hoping to finding out more in the next volume.

old questions answered, new questions created.

arcane dropout 2 is just as good as the first book.
in this sequel to arcane dropout, some of the questions surrounding Zoe, Lee's sister, are answered, but a lot more questions are created instead. we finally get to know what happened to her in the past and why she vanished. also, a link is layed between the dark impulse series and this one. i won't say what new questions are created as that would spoil things a bit to much, but it has something to do with the link between this series and dark impulse.

So far, so good

I love this guys writing style. And Alex Ford is perfect for narrating.😍 The way she switches and holds character with the different voices is spot on. The story line is great. I’m in the middle of book Three but can’t wait for the rest of the series 😬😬😬

Strong story!

Great plot in this adventure! I absolutely loved the way the binding spell misfired at the beginning.

it is like Harry Potter but for adults

I couldn't stop listening, the only thing that I regret is that it was too short and over way too fast.

The story continues with an interesting ending

Likable story with a certain Harry Potter vibe but certainly more adultish. Worth following for another book or two.

A bit better then the last but still a weak mc

The mc in this series just goes with whatever. Never really getting stronger or actually doing anything. He just keeps up his facade and hopes for the best. I find this book to be very frustrating. I hope the next one is better or i might drop the series.

The characters are all great and the concept is solid, plus there are more monster girls in this one. The narrator is the best ive ever heard as well and honestly is the only reason im not returning this one.
