How do you manage a child who gets stomachaches every school morning, who refuses after-school activities, or who is trapped in the bathroom with compulsive washing? Children like these put a palpable strain on frustrated, helpless parents and teachers. And there is no escaping the problem: One in every five kids suffers from a diagnosable anxiety disorder. Unfortunately, when parents or professionals offer help in traditional ways, they unknowingly reinforce a child's worry and avoidance. This audiobook exposes the most common anxiety-enhancing patterns-including reassurance, accommodation, avoidance, while offering exercises and techniques to change both the children's and the parental patterns of thinking and behaving.

Where does Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book is not a story. It is non-fiction. Nethertheless, the reading is winsome and easy to follow. This is one of the top 5 non-fictions books I've heard on Audible. What other book might you compare Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents to and why?
There are a myriad of books on anxiety (and OCD, GAD, worry, etc). Running Scared, by Ed Welch (I believe) is also excellent. Talking Back to OCD is good too (can't remember the author). I've read many, both for personal edification and to work with others. This book, though titled for parents and kids, applies to anyone who has dealt with any kind of anxiety disorder, so it rushes to the front of the line. The authors make a coherent case for a tested, hopeful, and successful approach to dealing with life-dominating anxiety, no matter what its cause.Which character – as performed by Paul Costanzo – was your favorite?
No characters, non-fictionAny additional comments?
If you, or anyone you know, struggles with anxiety (be it OCD, GAD, excessive worry, or anything else), get this book to him or her. One reading through will help, but remember, this book contains practical help that is used with people over weeks and months. Better still, listen or read the book several times to get a firm understanding of the principles and tools offered. Practice what you read. If you need a counselor to help, find one that uses a similar approach. This is a book of great hope, competently written.Best book on the Anxiety, period
