Half-Fae Princess Story Continues

This is the second book in the Amasai Rising Series and it was better than the first one. A lot of things happen in this story. The princess runs away from the people who wish to control her. She becomes a captive of a dragon, who claims to be her ally. She continues to deal with the dark power that threatens to consume her. The princess begins a new quest. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I recommend this series to those who enjoy coming-of-age fantasies. Brenda Scott Wlazlo's narration was fantastic and added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Fun Continuation, Fae Adventure For Young Readers

This picks up where the first book left off and then simmers before taking off again. It really felt like a bit of a reverse narative arch in my opinion. Book two starts with some exciting parts and then kind of slows down simmers... then it picks up and ends rather abruptly. Their is great world building and it does leave off in a spot that does leave you wanting more. Just be prepared to read these in order and pretty quickly next to each other, it feels very much like one of those mini series that we end up binge watching from start to finish.

This is a clean read - G level, free of any: bad language, graphic violence and intimate situations/scenes. It really is a great fantasy for the elementary school age reader on up, although as an adult the pre-teen angst got a little grating for me (probably doesn't help that I am in that stage and older with my own kids now).

The narrator did a good job with the voices and overall acting. I felt it was a tad slow but once I sped it up to 1.25x it was much better.

Baskerville Book Reviews

I’ve waited months for the chance to review this story. I did have to return to part 1 to refresh my memory. I’m glad I did though, as I was having a difficult time following along without the refresher.

I’ve talked about stories like this in the past. Not YA-Fantasy, but books that are written like they’re parts rather than separate stories. This one picks up right where the first left off, which is why I refer to it as part 2 in my review. If you liked Ring of Fire or Amasai Rising, then you’ll like this. As it’s more of the same.

Anhedonia is a bit of a slow burn, for lack of a better word. Not a whole lot happens. I’m personally fine with it. It introduces a few new characters and builds on others’ backstories. This is the kind of series that focuses more on the characters who wouldn’t normally be put into the timeline in other books. That’s what I like about it.

The only complaint I have with this story is the ending felt abrupt. This is a series I think you should really read (or listen to) back to back. Unfortunately at the time of writing this, book 3 isn’t on Audible. I’m sure I’ll be listening to all 4 stories in a single sitting when it is though.

The narration is excellent. To be honest, I kinda forgot I was listening to an audiobook. I didn’t notice any chapter headers, mispronounced words, or common Audible errors. So I just let the story play while I did other things.

This is a great series and I recommend it to anybody who is into YA novels and or fantasy.

NOTE: This copy was provided to me free of charge as a digital review copy. The opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone, I was not paid or requested to give this book a certain rating, suggestion, or approval.
