Publisher's Summary

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best - but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option - even if the task is impossible. Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other - and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.

✫✫ 3.5 - 4 Stars ✫✫

This was my second time listening to this book and I enjoyed it more the first time. I only re-listened to it because it was chosen for my book club and I couldn't remember it well enough for a discussion. This time I think it felt like all the other PNR I've read before. I was enjoyable and full of excitement, Raphael was HOT and a little bit of an Ass in the beginning but I grew to love him. I loved that the author mixes vampires, angels and a special human breed to hunt vampires. The narration was great, I love Justine Eyre but I will say she sounds more like an English afternoon tea kinda women than a young Vampire hunter

Narrator is Definitely A Personal Preference

This storyline is so good and refreshing. I do not even know what to say about the narrator. Her voice has a lot of vibrato. She is not bad BUT different. There were times when I truly tried to get into the story and accept with an open heart and mind the shaky voice telling it. However, toward the end, I found it a real challenge to listen to the story without being distracted by the narrator's unique voice.

This is one of those times when you either love her voice or hate it. Listen to a sample and take it from there. I really liked the story though.

Good, Not Remarkable

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Ok if you're bored.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I realized that I like my stories like the early Anita Blake novels- that is, driven by action with the romance there, but on the side. And that was my expectation going in. However, I found that this was more post-"Narcissus in Chains" where romance was in the driver's seat and action seemed like an afterthought.

The whole first half of the story seemed to be just Elena and Raphael's romance, which was well done, but left me thinking "you know, this whole delusional angel thing seems pretty important, so why has Elena done nothing but talk, hide, and almost have sex?" More importantly, though, I had a hard time believing that Elena was "the best there was" because aside from the opening scene and how Elena can smell vamps, she actually does very little until the second half. And she seems like she could use a little more wear-weariness and hardening. However, one thing I did enjoy was that the author creates a great world and there is a lot of depth to it. It seemed to take sooo much exposition, but it was very original.

OVERALL, while the plot was original and interesting, it at times just felt like an excuse for Rafa and Ellie to be together. It was a fun ride, but you definitely felt the bumps along the way. I have already purchased the second book because I did like the story and I want to see if goes a little more smoothly the next time around.

How could the performance have been better?

I'm used to listening to LibriVox recordings, so at first I thought Eyre did a pretty good job, but as I got more used to hearing her voice, I realized that I had a serious problem with it. She seems too prissy and so the scenes where Elena needed to have a lot of attitude came of as corny and grating. It felt like Eyre isn't the type of person that naturally cusses much, so the curse words come out lacking conviction and sounding weird. I feel like the narrator was part of the reason why Elena didn't come off as b.a. as she was supposed to be. However, I loved her range of accents.

Did Angels' Blood inspire you to do anything?

Yes, it inspired me to go back to writing because I found myself craving something with a little more action and kick-butt-ery.

Hot, very hot.

Not having read anything but this Author, the reviews are what tempted me to give it a try. I am not a fan of cheesy romances or books of this genre that can be just one sexual escape after another. I mean, come on, how bout a page turning plot that happens to have a hot romantic story to it too. And this is what Singh delivers. This book is sexy and riviting with an interesting original take on the angel/vampire story. I found this writer much better than others like Christine Feehan or Karen Moning who i found utterly predictable and boring. Loved it. So much so that i went out and bought the second of the series (which was equally well written!) Shame on Audible for not carring more books from this series. i have every intention of looking into the psy/changling series by Singh through other vendors. You wont regret dropping a credit on this one.

PG-13

A really good story with one sex scene with not much detail. (I prefer a little more but I know some others don’t) I’m downloading the next book now.

Who Knew, Angels could be so hot!

This is the first book in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunters series.
Singh's main charater is a kick-butt, kinda girl. She is a "Born" Vampire Hunter. And she is the best there is. Her life is going fine, until she is hired by the very sexy, Archangel, Raphael. (who knew wings could be hot?)

I can't wait for the next Guild Hunter book called "Archangel's Kiss" to come out.

Singh is also the author of the Psy-Changeling Series. But, I don't think any books in that series are offered as audiobooks.

Best of the Best kinda writing

I don't know why it has taken me so long to write a review for one my favorite books of all times... but here I go...

First, Elana P. Devaroux is one of the best female characters I have ever had the pleasure to read/listen about... She is tough as nails, but fragile at the same time.. Nalini Singh is an instant download author for me simply because of Elana.

Now, the book is the first book in the Guild Hunters Universe... where Elana who is working for the Guild Hunters is request to perform a hunt for none other, Raphael, the Arch Angel of New York, one of the 10 highest Angelic beings in existence...

So what does Elana do... of course she agrees... but with stipulations, as the attraction to the Arch Angels is through the roof, but alas, Raphael is one scary m..f'er...

This book is great in introducing the reader to the world of Arch Angels... yet keeping you on your toes with the mystery of will Elana get the bad guy... and will Raphael get Elana... and how does one be intimate with a scary Arch Angel...??? The questions will leave you reeling in this book, but don't fret...because book 1-6 are on Audible, so simply go the the next in series... it only gets better..

However, I still love this book, as this is were it all begins... and no matter how many times I re-read/listen to this book, I find something new about the story every single time...

This is so worth a credit, buy or sale... this is a must have book for any paranormal romance lover...

Narration was simple superb! Justine Eyre simply must continue to do this series, as no one else can be Elana or Raphael, or even creepy Leiwan for that matter...

Now... go off and buy the entire series my little padiwons!!!

Too dark... Little romance

I love Nalini Singh's style and I have all the audiobooks available of her PsyChangelling series. I tried this one hoping to see a similar style but I was disappointed. This is a very dark series. Very explicit murder scenes are detailed and it was gross. And let me tell you I'm not easily grossed out (I'm a True Blood fan). The romantic parts although few, were very good but they got lost in torn bodies and lots of blood. And then hearing about evil angels is kind of strange. To top it of the reader's voice can be a little annoying after a while. She screeches! I don't think I'll get the other books of this series. But I do recommend Ms. Singh's Psy Changelling series which is just perfect!
