Two strangers with no one to turn to but each other.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is in a difficult situation. His father is pressing him to propose marriage to the last woman in the world he would wish to take as his wife. With a fortnight to announce his betrothal, he makes the acquaintance of Elizabeth Bennet, who is in a predicament of her own.

Could Darcy be willing to consider Elizabeth as a solution to his problem and to hers? And can Elizabeth ascertain enough of Darcy's character to trust him upon nothing but a first impression?

Love this book! Lizzy and Darcy meet under rather unusual circumstances. Darcy proposes that they could be the answer to each others’ problems and Lizzy accepts. Enter the Fitzwilliam/Matlock family and you have a wonderful cast of characters. Dowager Countess, Rebecca Fitzwilliam (aka Grandmama) is one of my personal favorites

Unique twist on how Lizzy and Darcy meet

This is an out of canon story as it starts with Darcy’s father being alive and demanding that he will marry his cousin. Darcy refuses to obey and leaves Pemberly but his sister gives him some quiet advice about getting married before his father is aware. Upon his journey he stops in a small village to rest and overhears a conversation that changes his life.

In this variation, Elizabeth is the only surviving member of her immediate family. Her uncles are the ones Darcy overheard and was upset that one wanted to “sell” Elizabeth to settle some debts. The other is desperate to save her. A marriage to each other would solve both problems. But does it….???

I absolutely love Darcy’s grandmother!! She makes the story even better.

This is a very well written story. It did have some cheesy parts, but no more than most P&P variations. I liked the unique spin on the "both need to marry" trope. The only downside to this story was the emotionless narrator. Many pieces of the story would have been more affecting had the narrator shown any human emotion. It's as though Siri read the book to me.

Great story, so-so narration

Totally different from canon, Unique storyline premise with an HEA. I almost gave up early in book because of the very disappointing narration. Do authors have any input to narrator's? If so, Verona was a bad choice in my opinion.

unfortunate narration for a good story

Unfortunately, Ms Westbrook does not take the trouble to use the right intonation when reading dialogues. Everything is read with the same tone of voice. Which can be disconcerting...

Good story.
