Publisher's summary

From a top-ten Sunday Times (UK) best-selling author comes an intelligent, action-packed suspense novel featuring Robert Hunter, a criminal behavior psychologist turned LAPD detective who must race to identify the most brutal, clever, and elusive serial killer yet....

A freak accident in rural Wyoming leads the sheriff's department to arrest a man for a possible double homicide, but further investigations suggest a much more horrifying discovery - a serial killer who has been kidnapping, torturing, and mutilating victims all over the United States for at least 25 years.

The suspect claims he is a pawn in a huge labyrinth of lies and deception - but can he be believed?

The case is immediately handed over to the FBI, but this time they're forced to ask for outside help. Ex-criminal behavior psychologist and lead detective with the Ultra Violent Crime Unit of the LAPD Robert Hunter is asked to run a series of interviews with the apprehended man.

These interviews begin to reveal terrifying secrets that no one could've foreseen, including the real identity of a killer so elusive that no one, not even the FBI, had any idea he existed - until now....

Sorry I bought this

Books about serial killers were hot commodities when they first hit the market. Have you noticed how few come out each year now? This book is a brave attempt tap the S.K. readers. It is well written, it has a new angle but it is hollow. The plot follows a common outline (except for that angle) which is boring. Frankly.

Couldn't put it down!

What made the experience of listening to An Evil Mind the most enjoyable?

Twists I didn't see coming!

Which character – as performed by George Newbern – was your favorite?

Robert Hunter

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! But it was too long -- I don't pound books, I listen when I'm working out. This one I listened to at home because I HAD TO KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT!

Any additional comments?

Exciting Read

I was blown away by this book. It was so good that I listened to it twice. I would highly recommend this audible book.

Everything is explained to the reader like a child.

Where to start with this book? I was hoping for a police procedural because that’s how it was described. Far from it. The FBI are helpless and stupid. The reader is spoon-fed even the most obvious details. I felt like I was reading the outline for a book that was going to be written. Part of the issue is the main character and the narrator have the same exact voice so you immediately don’t like the narrator because it’s the same voice as the serial killer. I don’t know, I know a lot of people like this book but to me it just seemed like there was no mystery or build up. So many holes in the plot. The female lead is unintelligent and unprofessional. I really wanted to like this book but it was trying too hard to be shocking and rushed, and the story line suffered.

First read of Hunter series....AWESOME

Clever, twisted, nothing held back. You really get into the mind of a serial killer and of Hunter.

Could have been so much better

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I'm not sure.
The plot itself was great! Good characters, good twists and turns.
At first I wasn't too keen on the narrator, but he grew on me. I found myself frustrated with the author many times for repeating himself in the story. Give the reader some credit. We can remember what happened a couple chapters ago. We can remember where the story is set, no need to describe it again. It detracts from the story line and slows down the pace. For this reason alone I've determined Chris Carter is not for me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of An Evil Mind?

the plot twists

Very good book

Much better than I thought it would be. Lots of twist and turns. The narration was good. the flow of the book was good, until the last 5 or 6 chapters of the book. the only and biggest Downfall was the typical ending. The ending was boring and dull. If the ending had a different spin, this would have been a great book. I'm really disappointed.

one of the best books I've read in a long time

quite honestly, the only reason I read this book was because I am an X-Files fan... this is one of the greatest drama and suspense action books I've ever read... I have to hand it to Chris Carter, he's one hell of a storyteller

predictable plot turns, very easy to see the plot

predictable plot turns, very easy to see the so called twists . If you are not able to see the twists coming, you haven't plotted enough crimes yourself.
