The ONLY one in the series that I didn't care for!

I am a BIG Gabaldon fan and like everyone I was so excited when this book came out. I have listened to them all and the 2 that Audible did not have (the unabridged versions) I went out and bought the books, which I loved as well.
If I was not already familiar with the characters of Claire and Jamie I would have found them very dull in this book. Plot line was dull as well, seemed virtually pointless.
All-in-all it was a big FAT 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 for me...

Another great book!

I love this series and reading it felt like coming home. These characters are written in such detail and the historical setting is so accurate that it is easy to visulize every scene. I have a lot of money invested in the audio verison of all of these books and I do NOT regret one penny. They are wonderful to revisit and I always look forward to the next one.

I love, love, love this series!

I read the Outlander books before listening to them as a recommendation by a total stranger. When I joined Audible I bought the first one on sale thinking that it wouldn't and couldn't live up to the books. I was so wrong. Davina Porter is amazing. There are few narrators who enhance the audiobook experience the way that she does.
This continuation is divided between the past with Jamie and Claire and the Revolutionary War and the "present" with Roger, Brianna and their kids in Scotland. Great book, I cannot wait until December for the next in the series!

~sigh~ : she done it again

The rewards with Gabaldon are the meandering introspective globe-trotting journey to get there. Davina Porter - the narrator for all of the unabridged Outlanders - was again superb with the adult voices (and a little too cute for the kids.) We men like blod and guts and sweat and love. Please, may I have some more.

Never Disappointed

I have listened to this book at least 4 times since I purchased it. I can just not get enough of Jaime and Clair. Plus, Davina Porter is one of the best Narrators I have listened to and I listen to a LOT of books.

The book is classic Diana Gabaldon style (love, adventure, tension, war, death), however, it seemed to me like the last 2 hours of the book were a whirlwind of activity and ended with a cliff hanger. Frustrating since it usually takes her 2-3 years to write a book.

However, I do recommend the book HIGHLY! Start with Outlander and work your way to Echo...you will LOVE IT!

An Echo that Keeps Repeating

I could not wait to catch my bus each day so that I could continue this vivid tale.

Ms. Gabaldon has done it once again. With Davina Porter's narration, this is a tale not soon forgotten.

My only wish is that Ms. Porter not try so hard to "make" children's voices... that was the only flaw in my hours of enjoyment.

I was sad to hear it end... this tale still is a part of my life long after it is over.

Book 7 is outstanding!

This book is just as good if not better than the first 6. It has more about John Grey, William, and Brianna and Roger, yet still manages to come together with surprise, romance, adventure and charm! I am not yet finished because I want to savor every moment. Davina Porter is amazing and I could not imagine any other voice but hers to portray these multidimensional and very human characters. Wonderful! Thank you!

Echos can be heard

Great book! All voices can be believed. Male ,female,diffferent accents. Davina is fantastic. Looking forward to the next book.

Historians will be inspired to lesrn more listeners will be entertained and inspired to hear more

Managed to combine Lord John and Outlander

It seems Gabaldon is writing three trilogies - the first three Outlander books maintained a fast tempo and could be called adventure books. The second three sited the protagonists mostly in the same location, which for readers trained by the first three to expect that fast tempo comes off as constraining them. The second three are good, enjoyable books, but you get the sense of deceleration that is accompanied by a little disappointment at the loss of the previous pace. But then you hit the seventh book, what seems to be the beginning of a third trilogy, that restores the quick pace of the first trilogy, making it feel more classically Outlander. What seems to have happened in the period of the second set of three is the author channeled her adventure writing into a spinoff series based on the Lord John Grey character, and then stitched the Outlander series together with it in this seventh book. The feeling that this is happening, for someone who has not read the spinoff, is a bit jarring at first - you really observe that the author is trying to get in enough backstory and character development into an Outlander book to catch the reader up on and make her care about the Lord John Grey universe. There doesn't appear to be really enough space for this and the writing often seems to be referencing backstories you know nothing about. But given that there are over a hundred chapters, by the last quarter of the novel the reader actually is fairly caught up and the many storylines of the first perhaps half of the book, which seemed disconnected, come together. It does seem a bit contrived, but whatever disjointed sensation the abrupt insertion of unfamiliar storylines and characters effects is made up for by the restoration of the adventure book feeling to the Outlander series.
