Another Home Run for Harrison
*no spoilers, promise. I have been a fan of this series for many years. I was so sad when the author said she was ending the series with the last book but I understand going where the muse takes you and not forcing another book that isn’t there. BUT, she surprised fans with the announcement of another installment of the Hallows and it did NOT disappoint. I’ll admit it, I was worried. She summed up the series nicely but of course, leaving die hards wanting more. This new book had all of the main players and a few newbies. There’s even a nice summary of main players in the beginning for anyone new to the series, so it could be stand alone, but don’t start here if you want the full effect of the Hallows. The story was original, you saw traits of favorite characters you hadn’t seen before. You saw Rachel use her growth in some pretty profound ways, even addressing some old wounds that many fans hadn’t thought they’d been addressed. Kudos to Harrison for listening. If I were to pick a dislike, I would say there’s a few threads that are left that I’m not happy about, more than usual. There has to be more books or I will be pretty upset. I love the new players and want more because there’s some juicy backstories. Let’s pray to the publishing Goddess that Harrison will write the rest of this tale. I’ll be anxiously waiting.

Not the same
This book was 75% filler and repetitive descriptions with nothing of interest going on. There were several passages with detailed spelled descriptions that went on for far too long.
I still love being back in the Hollows world but what was magical and enjoyable for me was the core group working and hanging out... sharing their lives, the good and bad. I know people grow and move on etc... but they don’t have to leave the story in such - I’m here , I’m not or maybe

The end was all just a dream....
A few months ago I was remembering how much I liked the way this series ended and decided to see if Kim Harrison had started a new series. Much to my surprise and at the time, delight I discovered that not only had she done a pre-quel (The Turn) to the Hollows series but that she had also written a 14th installment with Rachel and crew. I decided that I would start with The Turn and re-read the whole series since it had been 6 years since the last book came out. Wow, was that a mistake.
I think maybe it's like when you think fondly about an ex and you don't really remember all of the really annoying things they did to make you break up with them. Also, having time between the books maybe I didn't notice how very little Rachel grew during the series and how annoying her character really is. There were times while listening where I was actually thinking that she should die from her own stupidity. Plus I can't think of another main character with so much angst and self doubt. I really don't even like her anymore. I do still like most of the other characters but I don't know why any of them would still like Rachel either.
As to the author's use of the same phrases constantly through all of the books, learn some new ways to describe things! I mean seriously, I don't ever need to hear anyone talk about their middle or core ever again. Or how someone is doing their best Peter Pan pose, and what exactly is a bunny eared kiss kiss?
My biggest let down in this 14th book is that I assumed it would begin where the last one ended, but NO. It starts by wrecking the satisfying ending of the last book. Really?! You couldn't find a better way to re-start the series than by saying it was all a dream???
In reference to Marguerite Gavin, I love her voice but she has this annoying habit of making sentences sound like they are ending when they are not. Also, whoever is doing her editing should have caught her changing pronunciation of names from book to book. Like Captain Edden, who was Edden for the first 11 books and then for books 12 and 13 she pronounced it like Eden (as in the garden of) and now in book 14 it's back to Edden.

Where’s the tension?
The villain was a mere thought with no threat. She spent more time describing made up rituals then showing what the demon at large was doing. I’m hoping she’s just warming back up bc in this one the subplots are apparently the main plot. I found myself waiting for the story to actually start. It never did.

I do not like the narrator
I have followed the Rachel Morgan series since the first book and I was beyond excited to find out there was going to be another book. But this narrator ruined this story for me. I couldn’t focus on the plot. This sounded nothing like what Rachel should sound like. This women sounds around 55 years old not 25-28 by any means. Her other voices were decent but when the main characters voice is off so is the whole story! Bad choice. I thunk I’m going to return this and purchase the regular book. I’m so distracted. I don’t even know if I like this story 🤷🏻♀️

Shallow and disastisfying
completely negates the ending of the series, adding nothing new to the body of work. MC feels out of character/voice and many lines feel recycled. It was like ripping off a bandaid to make the wound bleed all over again. I would have rather had another book from Trisk than this hollow Hollows book

Narrator was not at her best.
I've been a fan of there series and always liked the narrator with the exception of the one book that had a different one. I don't know what happened but the voices are different and seem to change throughout the book. That isn't so bad but she also changed the pronunciations of a few names and outright used the wrong words repeatedly.
It was nice to get another book in there series and I enjoyed the writing and getting to see the characters grow and change, it's just a shame that it was marred by the narrator.
If your a fan it's still worth a listen or a read!

The Hollows are back!
The story and writing were fresh for such a long running series. Harrison's mastery of her craft shines. The familiar characters brought us a new story that has the potential to offer up numerous books and I hope it does. The introduction of new characters was seamless among the cast. I am so happy to be reading the tales of our favorite itchy witch again.

American Demon, a return to the Hollows
I’ve been patiently waiting for this release, sensibly not reading the first few chapters as I wanted to savour every morsel of this book.
Life is busy (two young children to home school and working from home) but the great benefit of an audiobook is you can multitask.
Just perfection, listening to my favourite characters again. I love how Rachel has grown as a person, but also how she still makes the same mistakes.
Thank you Kim, I really can’t wait for more 💗💗💗

Very satisfied with the return of Rachel Morgan
It's been 7ish years since this series finished and I didn't realise how much I was missing these characters in my life!!
Now I am back to eagerly awaiting the next book.
