Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan knows magic - earth, ley line, even the forbidden demon magic - and that knowledge has saved her life more than once. But now something - or someone - is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong while living vampires attack humans and Inderlanders alike. The pressures build when the city is quarantined to contain the unreliable magic, and Rachel must stop the attacks before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war.

It’s up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to fix the ever-after before the fragile balance between magic users and humans fails. Publisher's Summary
A thrilling return to the number one New York Times best-selling urban fantasy series, continuing Rachel Morgan's story.
Rachel Morgan is back - and the hollows will never be the same.
What happens after you've saved the world? Well, if you're Rachel Mariana Morgan, witch-born demon, you quickly discover that something might have gone just a little bit wrong. That the very same acts you and your friends took to forge new powers may have released something bound by the old.
With a rash of zombies, some strange new murders, and an exceedingly mysterious new demon in town, it will take everything Rachel has to counter this new threat to the world - and it may demand the sacrifice of what she holds most dear.

Another Home Run for Harrison
*no spoilers, promise. I have been a fan of this series for many years. I was so sad when the author said she was ending the series with the last book but I understand going where the muse takes you and not forcing another book that isn’t there. BUT, she surprised fans with the announcement of another installment of the Hallows and it did NOT disappoint. I’ll admit it, I was worried. She summed up the series nicely but of course, leaving die hards wanting more. This new book had all of the main players and a few newbies. There’s even a nice summary of main players in the beginning for anyone new to the series, so it could be stand alone, but don’t start here if you want the full effect of the Hallows. The story was original, you saw traits of favorite characters you hadn’t seen before. You saw Rachel use her growth in some pretty profound ways, even addressing some old wounds that many fans hadn’t thought they’d been addressed. Kudos to Harrison for listening. If I were to pick a dislike, I would say there’s a few threads that are left that I’m not happy about, more than usual. There has to be more books or I will be pretty upset. I love the new players and want more because there’s some juicy backstories. Let’s pray to the publishing Goddess that Harrison will write the rest of this tale. I’ll be anxiously waiting.

Not the same
This book was 75% filler and repetitive descriptions with nothing of interest going on. There were several passages with detailed spelled descriptions that went on for far too long.
I still love being back in the Hollows world but what was magical and enjoyable for me was the core group working and hanging out... sharing their lives, the good and bad. I know people grow and move on etc... but they don’t have to leave the story in such - I’m here , I’m not or maybe

I do not like the narrator
I have followed the Rachel Morgan series since the first book and I was beyond excited to find out there was going to be another book. But this narrator ruined this story for me. I couldn’t focus on the plot. This sounded nothing like what Rachel should sound like. This women sounds around 55 years old not 25-28 by any means. Her other voices were decent but when the main characters voice is off so is the whole story! Bad choice. I thunk I’m going to return this and purchase the regular book. I’m so distracted. I don’t even know if I like this story 🤷🏻♀️

Shallow and disastisfying
completely negates the ending of the series, adding nothing new to the body of work. MC feels out of character/voice and many lines feel recycled. It was like ripping off a bandaid to make the wound bleed all over again. I would have rather had another book from Trisk than this hollow Hollows book

The Hollows are back!
The story and writing were fresh for such a long running series. Harrison's mastery of her craft shines. The familiar characters brought us a new story that has the potential to offer up numerous books and I hope it does. The introduction of new characters was seamless among the cast. I am so happy to be reading the tales of our favorite itchy witch again.

Narrator was not at her best.
I've been a fan of there series and always liked the narrator with the exception of the one book that had a different one. I don't know what happened but the voices are different and seem to change throughout the book. That isn't so bad but she also changed the pronunciations of a few names and outright used the wrong words repeatedly.
It was nice to get another book in there series and I enjoyed the writing and getting to see the characters grow and change, it's just a shame that it was marred by the narrator.
If your a fan it's still worth a listen or a read!

Too much filler!
I am glad to read a continuation of the story but the writer repeats too much over and over again. Jenks getting cold is mentioned about 100 times, How Kalamack smells like cinnamon and wine about 100 times. There are other repeats not mentioned here. The relationship of Kalamck and Rachel seems kind of lack luster. I got sick or Rachel thinking Trent should basically get rid of her and take back up with his EX, it just seemed to me like Ms Harrison was trying too hard to get back into the story line and had to put in a lot of filler. The characters spent a lot of time moving around and planning spells but nothing really happens until the end which did not really resolve anything and just set up the next book.

Where’s the tension?
The villain was a mere thought with no threat. She spent more time describing made up rituals then showing what the demon at large was doing. I’m hoping she’s just warming back up bc in this one the subplots are apparently the main plot. I found myself waiting for the story to actually start. It never did.

I was sad when I reached book thirteen to find it was heralded as the end of the Hollows series, so I am delighted to find that it's continuing and that the continuation is kickcing off with such a good book. What's even better is that Marguerite Gavin is still doing the narration.

American Demon, a return to the Hollows
I’ve been patiently waiting for this release, sensibly not reading the first few chapters as I wanted to savour every morsel of this book.
Life is busy (two young children to home school and working from home) but the great benefit of an audiobook is you can multitask.
Just perfection, listening to my favourite characters again. I love how Rachel has grown as a person, but also how she still makes the same mistakes.
Thank you Kim, I really can’t wait for more 💗💗💗
