Resumen del Editor

Their journey begins....

The human race has turned to dust. August Morrison faces it after rising from the depths of a dark matter research facility in Arizona. His co-workers. His daughter. All of them: dust. Friends and colleagues around the world don’t answer their phones. The city of Phoenix burns. He is alone. As a world without mankind starts to crumble, August fights not just for survival, but for his very sanity.

On the other side of the country, Poe McDowell watches her parents crumble into dust just moments after being shoved inside a coffin-like device that spares her from the same fate. She emerges to find not just her mother and father, but also her neighbors - her entire town’s human population - reduced to grit. Unlike August, she’s not entirely alone, but the life growing in her belly isn’t much company.

Then, hope. A drunken and desperate August broadcasts over the ham radio network and connects with his fellow survivor, Poe, alone and pregnant in a snow blanketed New Hampshire. Determined to reach her, August sets out on a cross-country trek. But the world is not as empty as it seems. Lights in the sky reveal that they are not alone. The human race’s demise was not natural - and the architects are searching for survivors.

...at the end.

Jeremy Robinson, whose stories have been compared to Michael Crichton, James Rollins, and Stephen King, is the international best-selling master of stories featuring mind-bending imagination, terrifying monsters and high-octane action. With The Distance, he is joined by his wife, Hilaree Robinson, whose passionate writing and characters make this novel a truly unique and exciting experience that will leave readers both enthralled and moved.

Not as expected

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This book started out as a post apocalyptic story and soon turned into a scientific alien suspense. I loved the 2 main character in this book! They are so well thought out and their musings really make you think through out the entirety of the book. While the book didn't go where I expected it to, I really enjoyed it and having 2 narrators.

What a great book!

I thought this might be another long drawn out apocalypse story but it was far from that. August and Poe are amazing characters, great story line, great listen.

There are a few implausible aspects

There are a few implausible aspects but worth the listen. the performers voices are strong and gritty but grew on me quickly until I was engrossed in the characters they portrayed. I like that the story was not predictable until the end at which point I began connecting the dots. But that was late enough in the story to be a pleasant discovery rather than an annoyance.

Well done, unique; not my favorite JRob book...

Jeffrey Kafer is always a solid performer, same here. I do see the reason why a male/female reader was chosen but that aspect is harder for me to recommend but for most it is probably fine, she did well. The story was unique but did not hold my interest unlike The Others he wrote and Bray performed, released a few weeks prior. I recommend overall for those that like this genre, just not strongly.

had potential

would have been a 5/5 if I only listened to the August parts. the Poe arc was painful

Yet another interesting story from Jeremy!

It continues to amaze me just how versatile his story telling is. This was another really good book that was not like the other great books of his. This one isn't my favorite of his but very worth the listen.

Amazing story (Stick with it)

This was a really good book. I wasn’t familiar with either narrator, but the story sounded so good I just went for it. No issues with female narrator it was perfect for Poe’s character. The male narrator was grinding on my nerves at first, (like he was trying too hard). His voice did NOT fit with August’s character in the beginning, but as August evolved the voice fell more into place. I’m glad I stuck with it. Again the story was amazing and I had tears at the end. Would definitely recommend this book.
