Acerca de esta escucha
In the 1890s Conor and his family live on the sovereign Saltee Islands, off the Irish coast. Conor spends his days studying the science of flight with his tutor and exploring the castle with the king's daughter, Princess Isabella. But the boy's idyllic life changes forever the day he discovers a deadly conspiracy against the king. When Conor tries to intervene, he is branded a traitor and thrown into jail on the prison island of Little Saltee. There, he has to fight for his life, as he and the other prisoners are forced to mine for diamonds in inhumane conditions.
There is only one way to escape Little Saltee, and that is to fly. So Conor passes the solitary months by scratching drawings of flying machines on the prison walls. The months turn into years; but eventually the day comes when Conor must find the courage to trust his revolutionary designs and take to the skies.

In the days of yore, he flew the skies and scorched angry mobs - now he hides from swamp tour boats and rises only with the greatest reluctance from his La-Z-Boy recliner. Laying low in the bayou, this once-magnificent fire breather has been reduced to lighting Marlboros with nose sparks, swilling Absolut in a Flashdance T-shirt, and binging Netflix in a fishing shack. Fifteen-year-old Amadou counts the things that matter. For two years what has mattered are the number of cacao pods he and his younger brother, Seydou, can chop down in a day. This number is very important. The higher the number, the safer they are, because the bosses won't beat them. The higher the number, the closer they are to paying off their debt and returning home to Moke and Auntie. Maybe. The problem is, Amadou doesn't know how much he and Seydou owe, and the bosses won't tell him.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite... Kendra and her brother Seth have no idea their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven.

One of my favourites
I've listened to this book several times and love it more with every listen. John Keating is the perfect reader for it, both because of his skill with the many and varied accents, and for the emotion and personality he conveys.

High Adventure at it's Best
A tale of high adventure on the level of Dumas. Colfer is such a brilliant storyteller and the fun he is having here is apparent as you listen to the drama unfold. While I never quite worried that Connor would fail, I was completely caught up by what his success would cost him. Also, I haven't seen a villain like Bonvilland (spelling?) since Dolores Umbridge. I loved to hate him and root for Connor's eventual revenge against the man who destroys his life.
As for the narrator, John Keating is one of the best. The voices he is capable of creating bring Colfer's beautiful characters to life.
If you love adventure fiction, look no further. Though this is a story for children, it's a tale for the ages that all will love. I intend to return to this book to read it to my own children and can hardly wait to do so.

Fantastic
Colfer is a master of fiction. His characters are delightful, his plots intelligent, well designed creatures, and there is a depth found that many if not most authors fail to create. This writer is a classic, a storyteller of high caliber, belonging to a class all his own.
