Resumen del Editor

Published in 1844, The Count of Monte Cristo would become one of the most popular works of literature of its time. In this story, the reader is taken on a wild adventure as they transverse the world of Edmond Dantes, a man that has been wrongfully imprisoned in the gloomy Château d’If.

Dantes' time at the château has not been a complete waste. During his imprisonment, he hears of hidden treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. With grim determination, Edmond Dantes plans to escape and find the treasure.

There is some speculation that Alexandre Dumas was inspired to write The Count of Monte Cristo based on a true to life case of wrongful imprisonment. When released as a serial in the 1840s, The Count of Monte Cristo was wildly successful and is still one of the most beloved stories of all time.

Wonderful story and performance!

This classic by Dumas needs no introduction for the avid reader. The Count of Monte Cristo is an excellent story that was truly a pleasure to listen to. The story is a wonderful one that touches on many different themes and emotions. Some parts did become a bit drawn out at times, but I anticipated completing this book of 45 hours over 4 weeks, but I got sucked into listening much more than I anticipated each day and completed it in a little over 2 weeks.

The narrator, Mr. Duquenoy, does a phenomenal job with this reading bringing all the characters to life. His British accent is simply a delight to listen to. Be prepared to spend more time than anticipated listening to this wonderful classic!

Loved it from start to finish, if you’re into classics this one is a must!

Drab narration

This reading is so awful it actually makes this classic and wonderful story tedious and boring.

A tale of suspense and surprise that delights.

Loved it after listening a third time. There is so much to enjoy and gain in the character development and intrigue of this wonderful story. It takes the reader to the lowest of places to experience the life of a prisoner forgotten in a cell. The pain and sorrow until an unlikely friend is discovered becomes Dante's Salvation. What happens next is hours of mentoring from master in sword, languages and all educational texts transforming a simple fisherman to become someone beyond expectations.
The grand escape from prison and then return to avenge those who sent him to prison is riveting. He returns as a count and is in disguise by all as he masterfully portrays his education and skill.
How this story unfolds is unexpectedly revealing the evil and unraveling each life until they each must face their past sin of an innocent man.
What is significantly extraordinary about this story is the virtue with expression in the writing that lingers in one's soul. Is mercy granted or what becomes of those who wronged our hero. It's worth reading again and again...
