Story
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Nothing Is Missing is a riveting, unputdownable story of what it takes to show up for yourself—and the joy that can come once you do. Raised in a home where food was unstable and anger was the norm, Nicole learned early that she needed to take charge of her own safety and security. So she did: She got into an elite private school by talking to a stranger in her dad’s cab, she strategized her way onto Wheel of Fortune to pay for college, she adopted three girls after meeting their mother panhandling, she quit her job to launch her own business, and she struggled.

Early in his career, actor Courtney B. Vance lost his father to suicide. Recently, he lost his godson to the same fate. Still, as mental health discourse hits the mainstream, it leaves the most vulnerable out of the conversation: Black men. In America, we teach that strength means holding back tears and shaming your own feelings. In the Black community, these pressures are especially poignant. Together, Courtney and Dr. Robin provide a guide for Black men navigating life’s ups and downs, reclaiming mental well-being, and examining broken pieces to find whole, full-hearted living.

Publisher's summary
This program is read by the author.
Alex Toussaint, the rising Peloton star who counts everyone from Roger Federer and the Golden State Warriors to the Today Show’s Carson Daly as fans, hops off the bike and gives listeners the inspiration and motivation they need to activate their greatness in every aspect of their lives.
Alex Toussaint is known for his grueling workouts where he promises “to kick your ass”–yet thousands keep coming back for more. Why? Because he might be the most motivational teacher out there right now. His mantra is “Feel good, Look Good, Do Better.” He expects more from you, and from himself. Yet so much of what he talks about is NOT about the bike.
Alex’s enthusiasm for life is infectious–“You woke up today!” “Breathe in confidence, exhale doubt.” Because Alex knows what it is like to be overlooked and undervalued, to be the underdog. He knows what it’s like to not expect the best from yourself. The child of Haitian immigrants who sacrificed so much to give him an education, he knows what it is like to be one of the few Black kids growing up in East Hampton. After a turbulent adolescence that saw him being sent to military school, Toussaint dropped out of college and was mopping floors at a gym. A few years later, he's one of the most iconic cycling instructors on Peloton, helping thousands of users along their fitness journeys through his inspirational workouts.
Finally, Alex gets off the bike to help listeners activate their own greatness in every aspect of their lives. Part self-help, part memoir, Activate Your Greatness details Toussaint’s mental and physical practices, on and off the bike, that have influenced his daily habits, fueled his motivation, and that have ultimately contributed to his astronomical success and shows listeners how they can do the same.
A Macmillan Audio production from Henry Holt & Company.
Critic reviews
“As a master motivator, Alex Toussaint has inspired millions of people to reach new heights—not just on their Peloton bikes, but in every part of their lives. In this moving memoir, he reveals how he learned to face pain and keep on climbing. It should come with a warning: this book may fire you up to do better and feel better.”–Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Hidden Potential and Think Again, and host of the podcast Re:Thinking
"If I'm honest, I really needed to hear Alex Toussaint's story. I needed his encouragement. I needed his inspiration. I needed the life lessons he's learned and I'm trying to learn myself. And what else can you be but honest after reading Activate Your Greatness from cover to cover in one day?"–Angela Duckworth, New York Times bestselling author of Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance
“For everyone who realizes that in order to look good on the outside, you have to feel good on the inside, Alex Toussaint’s Activate Your Greatness is a blueprint for building a stronger you in every way. It’s truly a great read.”–Dr. Mark Hyman, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Young Forever

So she did: She got into an elite private school by talking to a stranger in her dad’s cab, she strategized her way onto Wheel of Fortune to pay for college, she adopted three girls after meeting their mother panhandling, she quit her job to launch her own business, and she struggled.

Heck yes AT!
I loved listening to your story. So inspirational and a good reminder to never give up. Hearing you narrate this book pumped me up and now it might be time for a Club Bangers ride

Ready to take a Ride with Alex!!
This was a great book. Unfortunately I am not surprised by his journey. I could tell from the few classes I've taken he had military background. Hooah

Ride to Rise
Loved Alex’s vulnerability and perspective on leading oneself past internal demons. He was rather masterfully able to activate the human element of goal setting and growth. Highly recommend this book for people who want to push past the current status quo.
