Publisher's Summary

A witch is cursed to relive a doomed love affair through many lifetimes, as both troubled muse and frustrated artist, in this haunting debut novel.

Helen Lambert has lived several lives - a young piano virtuoso in 1890s Paris, an actress in 1930s Hollywood, a rock star in 1970s Los Angeles - only she doesn't know it. Until she meets a strange man who claims he's watched over her for centuries, bound to her from the beginning.

At first, Helen doesn't believe him. Her life is as normal as any other modern career woman's. Then she begins having vivid dreams about ill-fated love and lives cut short.

Caught in a curse, Helen will be forced to relive the same tragic events that ruined her previous lives. But with each rebirth, she's developed uncanny powers. And as the most powerful version of herself, Helen must find a way to break the curse before her time runs out.

A Witch in Time is a bewitching tale of passion, reincarnation, and magic perfect for fans of A Secret History of Witches and Outlander.

Critic Reviews

"With lush historical details and a wicked sense of humor, A Witch in Time fully immerses the reader in the story of Helen and her fated demon, unpacked like nesting dolls across time and lives, fortune and chance. From Belle Epoque France to modern-day D.C., from worlds pastoral, decadent, flashy to commercial, Sayers weaves a spell of love, lust and magic to create a page-turner like no other. All the thrill of a Discovery of Witches, with all the mystery and epic romance of Richard Matheson's classic Somewhere in Time." (Steph Post, author of Miraculum)

"Sayers cleverly twists the loves-lost-through-time motif.... A smart, engrossing debut from a writer to watch." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Sayers traverses time periods effortlessly with lush, graceful descriptions.... This spiraling narrative will appeal to fans of historical fiction and complicated love stories." (Publishers Weekly)

Tired of Heroines’ Repeatedly Making Stupid Decisions

I really tried to like this book, but couldn’t finish it. Returned it. The writing/detail itself is good, which is why I slogged through it to the point I stopped.

But, I am so over plots driven by the heroine making ridiculous & stupid choices. And that is what happens in this book. I stopped when she chose to prostitute herself to the 1st creep she came across out of spite. It so trite. She had already made several dumb decisions.

Even in past life experiences, the character needs to grow. But, this main character doesn’t within at least one of the lifetimes. She became unsympathetic & consequently I lost interest.

Heroines making really stupid choices over & over is trite & lazy plotting. Good writing/imagery is not enough to carry a book if you lose interest in the character.

I got the feeling the book tried to be a kind of Anne Rice novel, but it failed. There were other problems. but this is my main issue.

Terrible

I got this because of the editor recommendation stating it was like outlander and a discovery of witches, both of which I enjoyed. Well, I enjoyed discovery of witches, I love outlander. But I digress. It’s not like them. There’s a certain tone, or pacing or something, that’s similar to a discovery of witches. But just because something has hints of time travel or the 18th century doesn’t make it like outlander.

Besides that, the main character is petty, childish, and vindictive. The main characters mother is ... appalling. I can’t believe the father then married the younger daughter of to the neighbor that he was so glad to get his older daughter away from,

I kept listening In hopes the ending would redeem it, but now I regret it.

Ground hog day meets the time traveller

This is a very different story about a woman who is reincarnated based on a curse her mother placed on her. Without providing any spoilers - This is a journey of each of her lives and how she pieces together the mysteries in order to survive.

It's interesting, different but you must pay attention in order to follow who is which character....and by saying that it doesn't reflect the narration, but the journey in reincarnation. I found the story dragged at times, but enjoyed the story.

Wasn’t sure I’d like this - I was wrong.

At first I was confused about what was happening but soon caught on. About half way through I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to stop until the very end. The book is well written and flows well once it makes sense. The voices were okay but a little distracting, especially the male voices. The premise of A person living multiple lives and eventually remembering each one vividly is a good one. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys interesting twists and connections. There is use of swear words.

women are stupid. All characters are unlikeable.

Based on the description of this book I had hopes.
The narrators were good, but alas a good narrator needs good material.
The story was pretty trite, but I can live with that.
The women in the story at one point made me stopped. They seem weak and horny. The heroine in this book came off as shallow and stupid. Don't know if it has a happy ending because I could not get through it.

I am not a feminist in any way, but all the characters in this book I disliked. Particularly the women.

Really Excellent & Original Story Idea

Really excellent & original idea for a story!! I have never read anything quite like it and I simply could NOT put it down!!!

A woman is cursed to relive her life over and over again with the same two men. And love and have her heart broken over and over again by them for eternity. But then she begins to remember the past lives and piece together what is happening with the help of one of them.

Is she developing powers? Are they getting stronger with each life? Did someone make a deal with the devil?

Like I said...simply too good to put down! Trust me.

Story & Plot falls flat - Boring...

Novel reads like a boring conversation with your crazy aunt who went to Paris once where she went to a fancy department store and learned the names of a couple brands...

It's the reviews that encouraged me to listen to this, but I have to say that the book did not live up to any of the glowing descriptions. The main character is yet another flat, romance-novel trope of the helpless woman who can't accept her special abilities. The author seems to be more interested in describing her fashion (with name-brand call outs) than actually building an interesting story with well-developed characters and relationships. The author spends too much time describing the settings and it reads more like a Washington DC & Paris travel guide. Even in the steamier moments the novel feel clinical...

Fantastic!

I rarely take the time to write a full review but this one blew me away. Not only was the story something different and totally intriguing, it also had fantastic narration. It was also in a genre that I normally do not listen to. I cannot wait to see what this author comes out with next. I can’t believe this was her first book. Well done!
