Publisher's summary

Four hundred years is a long time to wait for your fated mates only to have two of them cruelly ripped away.

Suddenly finding ourselves in the hands of the nefarious Facility—run by my final mate’s father—was enough to make my claws twitch under my skin. The only reason I hadn’t reduced these humans to ribbons of severed flesh was that there was information to uncover, and a swan shifter to find...hopefully alive.

I suppose I’ll behave. Even if we were to escape, we wouldn’t be safe. A mysterious force is destroying my forest and the veil between our world and the Nav is growing thin. My former mentor betrayed me, an enemy from my past is circling, and the god of the underworld is demanding that I return to his realm.

The past has returned with a vengeance, and I need all three Riders by my side in order to claim my power and fulfill my legacy—before we run out of time.

The Yaga’s Riders series is based on the folklore of Baba Yaga, with creative liberties taken. It features mysterious forces, a legendary witch, multiple POV (including MM) and a cliff-hanger. It is intended for mature listeners.

a true polymorphic group

The plot here is well written and paced, although you need to read the books in order because they aren't standalone. The story continues to share more of the group's past and reveal the ties that bind them together while they fight evil and ambiguous enemies.
The foursome has one woman, one OMG alpha, a bi jokester, and a softer gay male. All the males have been a military group for years and are bonded like brothers, and the jokester and softer one have been mongamous for about 5 years, too. this means the sex scenes can include 2-4 people and MM sex as they all love each other in many ways, which I find refreshing. The alpha is something of a Dom, but without the bondage and tools; he's just a bit of a bully but with consent.

The Saga continues in Book 2

The story evolves with several threads as Yaga and her three Riders (the three soldiers with magical purpose from Book 1) become more intimately entwined. The Riders discover they have unique powers b/c of their connection with Yaga. They discover that the secret military base on the edge of Yaga's forest is capturing the forest's shifters and subjecting them to atrocious and painful experiments. Three gods get involved in the quest, mucking things up a bit and helping a bit. One of the gods has a personal agenda that isn't shared with Yaga, her Riders, or the other gods. Yaga is forced to relive the human life she lived prior to becoming Yaga in a death ceremony. She travels back in time in a way, traveling to places she lived, meeting people she lived with and reliving great pain in her human life. She is "fixing" the past wrongs in a way by reliving those years. Once she becomes Yaga, she lives in century chunks of time. I think she's about 300 when she meets her Riders. And the sexual relationships between the three men and Yaga deepen and grow and become more inclusive of all the participants.
All these threads should result in a truly entertaining page turner of a book, but I'm sorry to say that I'm about 2/3 of the book finished and I am feeling like it's a slog. If you have read any of my reviews you know I quite like a spicy sexy scene, many of them too, but I have actually fast forwarded through the sex! I'm struggling to stay interested in the outcome, and keep setting the book aside to read other books instead. I need the relief from the slog!
I love C. Rochelle's Villainous Things series, and have re-read the first book already. It's that series that prompted me to join Rochelle's Patreon and FB groups, and to buy The Yaga's Riders series. So, I admire and enjoy her writing a lot.
The narrators continue to be excellent, and I admire John Lane's ability to differentiate the male voices so well.

Another cliffhanger?!

OK, look. I immediately jumped into this book after book 1. But thank goodness for the chapter titles! Specifically because they call out our heroes by name, so I didn't have to worry too long that one or both of the men who were SPIRITED AWAY AT THE END OF BOOK 1, are still at least alive if not well.

I will say, I thought it was going to take much longer to get them all back together. It wasn't anti-climactic necessarily. And I do get why we needed all of them together for the journey through Vasi's past. But it wasn't quite as compelling as the first book. Which isn't to say it wasn't good or compelling. Just that the first book was SO very good.

The journey through Vasi's past was ROUGH! But I liked how she had her Riders with her through it. And each of them could relate to a different one of her past traumas in some way. So they could be there for her and help her through it.

And then. Then, Ms. Rochelle. You are going to throw another cliffhanger at me?!?! And you're going to threaten Nox?! I had to take a break. The cliffhanger at book 1 made me immediately need this book. But this one?! I was just made and I needed a break. But I do need to know what happened to Nox! So I'll be getting to the last book in the series pretty soon.

So Much & Pleased

I can’t believe the hills and valleys of the plot, keeping me on the edge of my seat (and not just for the intimate moments, which are *chef’s kiss*). A great cliffhanger too; onto Book 3 immediately!!

C. Rochelle + These Narrators? Perfection

Oof these cliffhangers!!

Maxine Mitchell and John Lane seriously are rocking these books. I can not imagine any of these characters without them! Even though C. Rochelle is absolutely unaliving me with these cliffies and the angst, I am LOVING this story so much!

Bad a** book

This is a great series so far. I wish it was longer. Some parts will make you blush. Great readers also.

Super hot continuation!!

All I’m gonna say is thank god we finally got some Knox sexy times. I was about to explode with all that sexual tension.

This one had a lot of twists and turns. Some parts I got a bit confused. But I caught up to speed. This has a lot of background and story.

As always this ends with a giant boom and I have to keep going.

This book had so super hot spicy AF scenes and I am here for it all. I love these men.
