Publisher's Summary

When Darcy is hired by Elodie Keaton to clean up her missing mother's disorderly home, the Wishcrafter is certainly up for the task. After all, the motto of her Aunt Ve's personal concierge service As You Wish is "No Job Impossible." But beneath the piles of old newspapers and knickknacks Darcy discovers something much more disturbing - Patrice Keaton's body.

Darcy's determined to give Elodie peace of mind by investigating her mother's disappearance and death. Patrice was last seen over a year ago after a fight with her Charmcrafter boyfriend. Was her murder a crime of passion? Or were Patrice's troubles caused by the Anicula, a wish-granting amulet? Now Darcy has to not only find a killer, she has to find the Anicula - before the power of ultimate wish fulfillment falls into the wrong hands.

Book two gets a bit better

Well, that was certainly the most rapid fire recap of events and exposition from the first book. Seriously, did we need to get all that information again? It was way more repetitive than I like, but thankfully it was only the beginning of the book.

I liked this book much better than the first, mostly because the first book spent more time setting up the world and how things work there. Now that we have all that established, we can get into some serious cozy mystery solving. This mystery also brings us more into the culture of the crafters. We get to learn more about them with the introduction of Geo-crafters and magical charmed objects. Very interesting twists and turns.

There are a couple side plots that keep Darcy and Nick on their toes. A good cozy gives you more than one mystery to solve. I expect at least one of these plots to seep into future books. This also gives us more of the villagers that we loved in the first book. I love the familiars!!

I liked this narration by Coleen Marlo much better than the first. I am still bothered by her weird "o"s, but her pace feels more natural. It could have been a glitch in the upload or the production. She has a very warm quality to her voice that keeps the read flowing. She has a slight note of awe in her voice at times that fits Darcy wonderfully.

I am feeling more invested in the series and definitely curious what will happen next. I am a sucker for a series!

Interesting Read

Would you listen to A Witch Before Dying again? Why?

Probably not only because I have so many books ahead to read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Darcy. She was portrayed as a sensible character, not too overbearing or careless and not whimpy.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I had a problem with the narration throughout the whole book. I couldn't get my mind off of the narrator's slight British accent that came through regularly even when she wasn't narrating the characters that were meant to have a full on British accents. It distracted me. To me there should have been a Bostonian accent for Darcy and the other local characters because of the area the story took place in. She did an excellent job of the various characters and I enjoyed the female, male, and creatures voices. I was pleased that the narrator didn't sound like a teenager as is found in many books these day which is off-putting.

Any additional comments?

Overall, it was a good book and I enjoyed it.

Thumbs up.

Intrigue, mystery and details without becoming dense and dark. This book hits a great balance. I highly recommend this book.

Interesting story, narrator not so interesting.

This story is interesting. It's the second in the series. I enjoyed the first one although the narrator's performance was quite uneven. It seemed she forgot which voice she used for which character. I was hoping she would improve becoming more familiar with the characters in the second book. Unfortunately she didn't because the same thing occurred. I would read the print books in the rest of the series but not listen to them with this narrator.

book 2 reveals more in a fun style

I know more about the main characters and the secondary characters which is great. I like how some characters have the opportunity to return in later books.

I am looking forward to Darcy's PI career becoming legit.

I am getting used to the narrator's voice.

love the premise and the development of the story

Very enjoyable

I like the storyline, the characters, the romance not overly done, and the author's wit and writing style. The book keeps my attention and interest, making me want to hear more. The only difficult part, for me, is the narration. The narrator has a great voice, but the voice does not sound like a 30 year old's voice, that I am use to. So if find my ears and mind imagine a character in her 40's to 60's. I definitely will read other books by this narrator, it's just I struggle with this particular series and the visual of Darcy.
