Publisher's summary

Outspoken, rebellious Cissy Arkwright was sent west from her Chicago home to work at a boarding house in Wylder, Wyoming. The last thing she expects is friendship with the handsome new boarder, a man with an air of danger and the power to make her smile.

Buck Standish is on the run from his past. He'd like to put aside the life of a gun-for-hire, especially once he meets Cissy. But experience tells him the past has a way of catching up, pistols in hand. He's lost his heart to Cissy — should he protect her by hitting the trail again? Or stay in Wylder and fight for their future?

Gunslinger for Hire

I’m enjoying my time in Wylder and this book was another stop in this great town. Visiting the Wyoming Territory in the 1870’s is quite the challenge to be sure. There are all these rules of propriety. A woman can’t be seen around town with a man unless he’s properly courting her. Or so claims Cissy’s boss at the boarding house.

Cissy has been sent west by family she trusted but eventually she’ll see that trust was misplaced. She toils away at the local boarding house but it’s not until a stranger comes to stay that she notices life passing her by. Buck Standish works security at the bank. The bank that has been robbed several times. Most of the town doesn’t know Buck has a past as a gunslinger. He’s trying to go legit – especially when he meets Cissy and can see himself settling down.

But one’s past has a way of catching up and soon it’s clear Buck hasn’t been able to outrun his reputation. So can he fight one last fight or will it cost him everything? Seeing as this is a romance, I’ll say I got my happy ending.

I’m happy that Dawson McBride is narrating the entire series. I like his narration style and his deep voice suits the time period. Another fun audio to listen to.

They Walk on the Wylder Side.

Cecelia “Cissy” Arkwright was recently sent to Wylder, Wyoming to be punished for her behavior by her aunt and uncle. Buckminster “Buck” Standish aka Burt Saunders has just arrived in Wylder, Wyoming to change his life. He needs a room, and she works at the local boarding house. The last thing Cissy and Buck need is a relationship, but when their friendship starts to turn into something else. These two people will take A Walk on the Wylder Side.

A Walk on the Wylder Side is the third book in the Wylder, Wyoming series. This series brings together authors from the Wild Rose Press family to write a Multi-author series. This series revolves around the citizens in the booming western town that has growing pains. Wylder, Wyoming. The first four books bring new people to town and brings them together with the local citizens. These western historical romances will take you to 1878 Wyoming where these characters face danger, passion, the weather conditions, wild horses and their pasts to try and find true love. These stories can be read as a stand-alone book. So, welcome to Wylder, Wyoming where anything may happen, and love abounds. I very much enjoyed these stories. Take a trip to Wylder, Wyoming to fall in love with these wonderful characters and a unique town in the wild west. I’m anxiously awaiting my return to Wylder, Wyoming and finding the next group of citizens and maybe newcomers to fall in love with and who will be next to find true love.

Take a Wylder walk into the Old West!

Another exciting adventure in the Wylder West. There are many dangers in old west. Buck is a gunslinger who wants to retire his reputation. He is the type of man most women would love to have in their lives. He is strong, passionate, loving, and a defender. Sissy demonstrates many of these same characteristics. She is rebellious of the way she and her brother are unlovingly treated by her guardians after their parents' death. I enjoyed how the author developed their love from their unexpected meeting to the safety concerns and then their final decision.

Dawson McBride has a smooth and powerful voice. He brings the listener right into the heart of the West. He gives the characters distinctive voices and makes the listener feel the emotions of these characters. I love listening to him. I highly recommend this Audible book for your listening pleasure.

Wylder is home

Wylder, Wyoming, the place Cissy is sent to by her horrible family as she is being punished for her outspokenness. Weary to the bone, her boss, Mrs. Culpepper works her nonstop. When she rushes to get rid of the dish water, she throws it on non other than Buck Standish. Trying to escape his notorious reputation for gun slinging, Buck is the new security in town and looking for a place to stay. And our meet cute brings on a wonderful budding romance! I love Cissy! She has a good heart, is worried for her brother and knows good people from bad. Buck is that strong, protective man we all want to have around us. You can feel his warmth every time he speaks to Cissy. And there are those characters we love to hate! Life in Colorado may not be easy, but these characters make the time I spend there worth it! Laura Strickland's A Walk on the Wylder Side is a great addition to this series.

I cannot say enough good things about the narration of this series. Dawson McBride is fantastic. He has a warmth in his tone that comes through and it pulls me in every time. Perfect for the old west, he nails Buck and easily falls into Cissy making it easy to know who is speaking. I can't wait for more of this series!
