Publisher's Summary

One kiss lasts a moment. But a thousand kisses can last a lifetime.

One boy. One girl. A bond that is forged in an instant and cherished for a decade. A bond that neither time nor distance can break. A bond that will last forever. Or so they believe.

When 17-year-old Rune Kristiansen returns from his native Norway to the sleepy town of Blossom Grove, Georgia, where he befriended Poppy Litchfield as a child, he has just one thing on his mind: Why had the girl who was one half of his soul, who promised to wait faithfully for his return, cut him off without a word of explanation?

Rune's heart was broken two years ago when Poppy fell silent. When he discovers the truth, he finds that the greatest heartache is yet to come.

A standalone young adult tearjerker romance, recommended for ages 14 and up.

A thousand tears shed

I have had so many people tell me to read this book but it took Audible for me to finally break down and do it.

I see the value in stories like this, I think there is something to learn in grief and heartbreak. I think you can't appreciate the good if you don't experience the bad. I think stories like this makes us more empathetic, sympathetic and kind.

That being said, holy moly was this one sad. I was prepared for it to be heartbreaking and that help, which is why I am warning everyone now... Be prepared to cry!

The narration was amazing. Both PJ and Katie seriously brought the story to life for me. Huge kudos to them!!

AND MY HEART ALMOST BURST!!!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of A Thousand Boy Kisses to be better than the print version?

Audio always is, but I only listened!

What other book might you compare A Thousand Boy Kisses to and why?

oh I just dont know this is a sad sad beautiful story!

Which scene was your favorite?

The last one at the beach....

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

ALL OF IT!! The tears flowed....

Any additional comments?

This was a lovely story...tragic, and touching...and I was almost always fully engaged...BUT...there was some time in the beginning that I thought was drawn out a bit to long...and the ending left me needing more closure...like WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO RUNE? Other than that this was soooo sweet..and I loved Poppy and Rune and I shed tears of both sadness and joy...and I am glad they had a forever type of love...it was just an awful HEA ending...I mean I was like WOW...but I did enjoy this listen..and it is well worth your time and a credit!! SOB!!!!

3.5 Stars

Sadly I think I am in the minority on this book. Maybe I was expecting amazing because I was told by many that this was the book that affected them the most. I'm not saying it was bad or anything like that so please don't take that the wrong way. The book was good just not great. I think it was too much like another famous book with the same story line because I compared them throughout the book even though I was trying not too.
I had a very hard time connecting with these characters and at first I thought it was because they were so young but I quickly realized that was actually the opposite, I had a hard time with them being 15-17 in most of the book but they acted and talked like the were old. No teenagers would react to things the way these 2 did ( well maybe him during his angry time). This was just such a depressing book. I was expecting a very sad depressing ending but honesty it was depressing for more than 2/3 of the book and I need a lot more happy to feel the love and connection so that the sad will hit me the way this book hit others.

I really liked that the love story pretty much started started at age 8, I loved that it didn't matter to either of them what others thought unlike most YA books and I loved that the parents are on their side. Her relationship with her Grandma was sweet and I wish it had lasted longer in the book because I enjoyed the time they were talking.

The narration was a little hard for me because of the male accent but otherwise it was good.

Terrible.

I seriously hated this book so much. The emotion was forced and redundant. Can't believe I wasted my time on it

An all-consuming tear jerker delivering All.the.FEELS.

FML
Oh my aching heart and swollen eyes. 😫💔😭
If Bright Side, The Fault In Our Stars, and Me Before You engaged in some weird book ménage, they would’ve given birth to this book.

This book has been on my TBR since its release nearly 2.5 years ago! But with all such emotionally draining storylines, I shied away from reading it right away, choosing to mentally prepare myself instead. It took me just as long to pick up and read those prior aforementioned titles. Yet, I’m not sure why I randomly chose today to start the Audio book.

I got sucked in. Poppy and Rune are childhood sweethearts. After the initial scene with Poppy’s grandmother and the intro of the “Thousand Boy Kisses” jar I knew I was doomed. Poppy had been challenged by her grandmother to live life and take on adventures by writing down and recording 1,000 boy kisses that made her feel as if her “heart almost burst”. Many of first kisses to go in the jar were from Rune. Her decided soulmate and other half of her heart.

Then my lips parted, and I whispered, “Kiss three hundred and fifty-seven. Against the wall of my house … when Rune took possession of my heart.” Rune stilled, his hands tensed, and I finished with, “And my heart almost burst.”

Their teenage love bubble bursts when Rune is forced to suddenly move away. Fast forward 2 years and we have two wounded characters. Chapter 9– about 50% in- I’m in tears. The narrators lent a voice that complemented Poppy and Rune’s characters. I was hanging on every word as l listened chapters 8 & 9.

“Why don’t we look at the person we love the most like it’s the last time we will ever see them? Because if we did, life would be so vibrant. Life would be so truly and completely lived.”

After, I had to step away and take a break and remind myself...FICTION. But it’s so easy to slip into Tillie Cole’s tantalizing and poetic-like prose. When I continued the story, I chose the kindle. I highlighted and highlighted and highlighted! Bittersweet swoony moments tumble one after the other. Just as I’m wiping my tears away after one scene, another poignant moment followed: relentless in its pursuit for a punching my heart a little more.

I felt like I was in a limbo of angst with an emotional anvil weighing on my back. There’s so much emotional push-pull swirling around not just between the hero/heroine, but among the supporting characters, all the while running against the clock.

This is one of those stories that will stick with you. It’s beautiful. Insightful. And a good kick in the butt to live life fully everyday. The present is truly a gift, so be present and savor each moment.

“Then you’ll be watching.”
We stood, on opposite sides of the hallway, just staring. Poppy mouthed, “For infinity.”
And I mouthed back, “Forever always.”

A story you'll never forget

I got so attached to these characters, Rune and Poppy. Young love is so pure. Young heartache is so raw. This story was addicting - adventures, soulmates, music, loss, photography, family, and kisses. A thousand kisses to be exact. And then there is the epilogue, which gutted me and healed me all at the same time. A story I will never forget.

Same...

I feel the same as most of the other reviewers- this book completely wrecked me, but it honestly hurts soooo good!
The love that Rune and Poppy share from age 5 until the ends of their lives is beautiful, and even with the hurt and pain, this story leaves you feeling so full and satisfied.

Totally worth a listen

OMG. So beautiful to listen to; a real ugly cry.
I have never had a book I’ve listen to take me so long to finish. Not because it was bad but because it was beautiful. Thank you for helping me remember how beautiful real love can be.
