Publisher's Summary

In A Tale of Two Cookies, a cozy mystery from Eve Calder, it's nothing but sugar and spice at The Cookie House, but elsewhere on Coral Cay everything isn't so nice.

Pastry chef Kate McGuire is loving life on the laid-back island of Coral Cay, Florida. As junior partner in a bakery renowned for luscious desserts - especially her cookies - life is pretty sweet. So when an old friend arrives and announces a spur-of-the-moment beach wedding, that's just the icing on the wedding cake.

But the groom vanishes right as a television crew descends on the town to film a hot-new realty show. Is there a connection? Is her friend Desiree somehow involved? Or did groom Judson simply get cold feet? The bride and groom were paired better than warm cookies and cold milk, so Kate doesn't buy it.

As the show's cast runs amok on the island and the investigation into Judson's disappearance heats up, Kate and her pal Maxi, along with town dog Oliver, will brave the rambunctious world of reality TV and a wedding weekend gone awry, in an all-out effort to find the missing groom.

Not my favorite of the 3, but good.

I did really enjoy this, just not as much as the first two.
It did keep me guessing tho I did kind of suspect the one who eventually was the culprit. The reason I took away a star as I said I did not like it as much as the first two is that at one point I thought “ok, time to wrap this up”. Still, I did enjoy it.
And again, I love the camaraderie of the women and their strong friendship present in the books.
I do look forward to the next.
Narration was good except for two things…Maxi is Hispanic and the narrator mispronounces her son’s name. The J in Javi is pronounced like a hard H not like the J of Joe. And I noticed the narrator pronounced “gracias” like they do in Spain, with the “th” sound. It is a small detail but it bugged me.

very good

Very good. Much more intrigue and a more unique storyline than your average cozy mystery. The story keeps you guessing. There's tension and some peril, but it's not graphically violent, which is perfect for me.

I love the setting and the side characters. The author does a great job of making you feel like you're there.

The narration is excellent. You'd swear you were listening to more than one actor. She annunciates well and is great with accents, ages, genders, etc.

Looking forward to the next in the series. 🙂

GREAT READ

I SO ENJOYED THIS LATEST BOOK IN THIS SERIES. KATE AND MAXI ARE AS DELIGHTFUL (AND SOMETIMES FUNNY) AS EVER, AND DESIREE WAS A NEW ELEMENT. THE MYSTERY WAS PARTICULARLY INTERESTING. I DO HOPE WE GET SOME PROGRESS IN KATE'S LOVE LIFE SOON. HA. NOW I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT BOOK.

Awesome!

I love this series and the narrator does a really good job. What's not to like? A mystery full of likeable characters in a nice corner of the world with a side of cookies. I enjoyed the story very much. I hope Eve Calder keeps writing and that Christa Lewis keeps reading!

TMI

The basic story is pretty good, But the over use of minuscule details were tiring.
I listened to call 3 books because the plot was good and I was guessing who dunit until the ending.
I do recommend this series with a warning to space them out.

A Tale of Two Cookies

I really enjoy this series b/c it has everything I like in a light cozy mystery. There’s humor, suspense & this time a missing person. Kate McGuire is welcoming long time friend, Desiree Goldsmith to Coral Cay, Florida. Recently retired, Desiree had let Kate know she was planning to visit & that she was planning a small, intimate wedding on the beach.
Of course, Kate was making the wedding cake. Desiree is marrying marine biologist, Judson Cooper. Things are going well until it’s time for the wedding. The groom is a no show. Desiree is of course very upset & insists that something bad has happened to Judson. Most believe Judson got cold feet, among other growing rumors, but Desiree won’t accept that & insists on a missing person investigation. Kate, Oliver the dog, Maxi & several of Kate’s friends start trying to find some answers but this one takes a lot of research. Good book!

Good .... but too long

Some excellent plot twists, but could have been shorter. Nice ending. Liked the story!
