Publisher's Summary

The former Beatrice Hyde-Clare is having a little trouble adjusting to her new situation. Now installed as the duchess of Kesgrave in elegant splendor in Berkeley Square, she is confounded by the stately residence’s seemingly endless array of rooms.

And every time one of the maids addresses her as "your grace", she flinches. And the butler! Oh, yes, that imposing servant holds her in utter contempt and has no qualms about sharing his opinion with the rest of the staff.

It’s all so wretched.

But just as Bea begins to despair - a bright spot.

A neighboring house has suffered a ghastly tragedy, and although the constable deems it an inadvertent decapitation, she can’t believe anyone could be so careless as to accidentally lose his head.

Determined to discover the truth, the new duchess pays her first social call. Because even if she can’t find her way around her palatial home, she certainly knows her way around a murder.

Loved it!

Didn’t think the series would continue to be a good listen but I’ve been happily proved wrong. This is one of my favorite books in the series so far. Looking forward to the next!

Twisty Mystery, Regency Love Match

I've consumed all six books in the Beatrice Hyde-Clare series in the span of 3 or 4 days.
In this volume, I had to take a break near the beginning when our Heroine was panicking in the butler pantry.
It took some self-reflection to realize the scene was uncomfortable because it was so similar to my own issues with anxiety and overthinking.
I don't know if this is the last book in the series; if there's another, I will definitely be purchasing it.

Another enjoyable murder from Lynn Messina

Jill Smith perfectly narrates this humorous escape from 2020. I’ve read all the books in this series with great pleasure. Keswick and Beatrice are well suited.

Absolutely Charming Series!

I honestly can't remember the last time I finished a six book series in less than a week. I have been thoroughly captivated by the characters in this Regency era murder mystery/romance series. I sincerely hope Ms. Messina will write many more books exploring the further adventures of Bea and her Duke!

kept falling asleep..*yawn*

I really liked the other books in the series. what happened to this One? Beatrice became weak and annoying. constantly droning on about what her butler must think of her.....the Beatrice of previous books didn't give a tic what others thought. I couldn't finish and was wholly disappointed. what a shame.

Love Beatrice and Kesgrave!

Although it was a little slow in spots the banter between characters was excellent and the narrator perfect for the series.

Just Wonderful

My only complaint with the author is that after reading her books, it spoils my enjoyment of others in the same genre. Every great book is built on great characters, and I can't help but to love how well Lynn Messina writes her characters, with special recognition of the two main characters, as their intelligent banter requires the author to be even more intelligent to construct. Well done. I thoroughly enjoyed this series in general, and this book in particular.

Snooze fest

This was so hard to stay interested in. There was very little plot, no forward motion. It was primarily Beatrice Hyde-Clare’s inner monologue, which got incredibly boring when she thought the same things over and over. “Oh, how do I be a duchess, oh woe is me, the servants don’t respect me, I’m going to bring my husband down in the world, whatever should I do.” Little of the prior spunk and wit that made her endearing. Save your credit.

Mystery Meets Jane Austin - Highly Recommend!

I absolutely love this series! The combination of Bea and the Duke with their fun snarky banter, their intensifying romance, and a new murder to solve is simply a lot of fun. The romance is definitely hotter in this book as they are now honeymooners. If you love regency and mystery this author combines the two genres beautifully. I definitely recommend reading this series in order or you will miss far too much of the fun. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

To the parents, this series has been pretty clean (free of language, overly graphic violence and sex scenes), however, this book is really heated up in the passion side as Bea and Damien are now honeymooners... That being said there is heavy kissing, allusions to bedroom activities and making out but the author does stop before things get too far in and the scenes do skip ahead but there are multiple scenes. This one is really for the more mature, older teen to adult - PG13 for sure.

She Continues to be Amazing!

The title for this review applies to Bea, now Duchess, but also to Lynn Messina and Jill Smith. The story was delightful and the narration perfect, both things are always so.
Highly recommend this series!
