Story
Codependency is a relationship in which one person needs to rely on others for self-worth or approval. This relationship can cause anxiety or shame that keeps one from focusing on one’s own needs and desires. It can also lead one to feel entitled and jealous when the codependent partner doesn’t share some priority they perceive themselves to have in their life. Codependency can be characterized by having an attitude of “shoulding” on another person. Communicating this self-perceived problem can lead to an improved relationship between the two people involved.

Story
People with borderline or narcissistic personality disorders have a serious mental illness that primarily affects their intimate, personal, and family relationships. Often they appear to be normally functioning at work and in public interactions, and narcissists may even be highly effective, in the short term, in some work or social situations. However, in intimate relationships, they can be emotional, aggressive, demeaning, illogical, paranoid, accusing, and controlling - in the extreme.

Publisher's Summary
What happens when the normal rites of passage to adulthood become something more potentially deadly. What do you do when your child refuses to eat, self-harms, or becomes deeply depressed? How do you protect your child from bullies, gangs, or grooming from predators? What happens when they run away from home, get addicted to drugs, alcohol, or engage in criminal activities. What do you do when your child seems so set on pressing the self-destruct button and nothing you say has any effect?
This book is written by a parent for parents who are facing this difficult situation now. It covers not only some useful tools to use in guiding your child but also gives you the parent some help in coping with an often terrifying and deeply upsetting scenario. It doesn't matter what issues or multiple issues you are being confronted with, there is something to help within this book. This book aims to give hope when hope is in short supply and remind parents that even though they may be weathering the storm from hell right now calmer waters are not far away.

Good book for families with teens & pre-teens!
I think this is a good book for anyone working with young people. Moreover, I think it would be a good book for pre-teen parents or anyone with pre-teens in their extended family (aunts/uncles/etc.) in order to be better equipped to parent teens, especially if they become "troubled" teens. I liked the way Susan Greenway narrated this book. I recommend this book.

This book was OK
I thought this was going to be about a mother who watches her daughter spin into drug addiction and then help her get out of it with helpful advice. She did tell us about these things but it was just that Endo supporting details. It was like a skeleton of a story and although it is nice this Mother’s Day and her story wanting to help someone else and I’m sure it will. I just thought there could’ve been more.I thought I needed Brown had a great talent for writing in the story was pretty good I just thought it would’ve been better had she explain the signs, other than my daughter with Drew.

Emotional and inspiring
An amazing listen for any parent with children with any addiction. There is no easy answer but the author makes you feel you are not alone and not the only person dealing with this. Practical advice and seeing the problem from a different perspective is a must and she uses her experiences to suggest alternative ways of dealing with very difficult situations.

A Good Look Into The Past
This is an honest look back into the author's past and their relationship with their child and it is nice to see someone being so truthful with themselves, and there is something to be learnt from hearing another person's story. It gives an insight that we may overlook in our own life and it offers guidance that a lot of people would be able to use in similar situations in their lives.
