Historia
Real heartbreak is unmistakable. We think of nothing else. We feel nothing else. We care about nothing else. Yet while we wouldn't expect someone to return to daily activities immediately after suffering a broken limb, heartbroken people are expected to function normally in their lives, despite the emotional pain they feel. Now psychologist Guy Winch imagines how different things would be if we paid more attention to this unique emotion - if only we can understand how heartbreak works, we can begin to fix it.

A guy who rejects or breaks up with you should no longer exist in your life. Contacting him or allowing him to stay in touch with you will make you work harder and harder to convince him that you’re worth his love and attention, and it will compel you to play that ugly and unwinnable game called Chase-a-Man. The best way to avoid this ugly game and break his spell over you is to cut the guy off (cease all communications and interactions) for a set period of time, or in some cases, keep him cut off out of your life indefinitely.

In this series of honest and poignant essays, Heidi Priebe explores the harsh reality of what it means to let go of the people and situations we love most - often before we are ready to - and how to embrace what comes next.

This reduction can only take place if you were involved with a toxic person. Toxic people are selfish, empathetically bankrupt, and have a limited relationship with reality. Anyone who feels validated by exploiting your hunger for theirs is toxic - to your peace, your life, and your mental health.

If, like so many others, you've lost sight of your own life in the drama of tending to a loved one’s self-destructive behavior, you may be codependent—and you may find yourself in this book. You don't have to be controlled by difficult people! Strange as it may seem, other people are not nearly as committed to our happiness as we are. In fact, sometimes it seems like they’re on a mission to make us miserable! There’s always that one person. The one who hijacks our emotions. The one who seems to thrive on drama. If we could just “fix” that person, everything would be better. But we can’t fix other people. We can only make choices about ourselves.

When a close friend had her husband leave, I made the commitment to speak with her for 90 straight days, telling her exactly what I wished someone had told me the moment my own wife walked out. Every morning, I'd send her an email with a story from my own "hellacious" experience, giving her something inspirational to focus on and an action step to get her from heartbroken back to thriving - as fast as possible. Severing a cherished relationship is one of the most painful experiences in life - and cutting those emotional ties to a loved one can feel almost like ending an addiction. Up till now, people recovering from other problems were able to get real help - like AA and rehab - while those struggling in the aftermath of traumatic breaks dealt with platitudes and friends insisting they should "get over it already". The beauty of rising above a break up
I appreciate so much that this book addresses how we negatively weigh ourselves down through break ups but that we can pick ourselves up and move on to bigger better things without damaging our relationships with ourselves. Wherever you’re at in the grieving process there are several tremendously helpful hints to help you get over your break-up in healthy ways and allowing yourself to take the time to heal from the pain and feeling of loss that have occurred in your own way.
I have already recommended this book to a few friends who are going through hard times with break ups and probably will reference it again when needed.

Rebuilding my life....
I stumbled upon "How to Get Over Your Breakup" by Rachel Adamson, narrated by Lori Vandervelde, at just the right time in my life, and I couldn't be happier that I did. This book is like the wise, witty friend you desperately need after a breakup, offering a fresh perspective on healing and moving forward.
What I loved most about this book is how modern and up-to-date it is. Unlike some of those dusty old-fashioned breakup guides, it's packed with practical advice for navigating the post-breakup world in the 21st century. From handling social media stalking to finding digital detox strategies, Rachel Adamson gets it.
Lori Vandervelde's narration is like a warm hug, making the journey of rediscovering oneself all the more comforting. Her voice is soothing and relatable, making it easy to connect with the material.
As I listened to this book, I found myself laughing at the humorous anecdotes and nodding in agreement with the insightful advice. It's not just about getting over a breakup; it's about rebuilding your life in a way that's true to who you are today.
In a world where breakups can feel like a storm, "How to Get Over Your Breakup" is the modern-day lifeboat you need. It's been a game-changer for me, helping me not only get over my breakup but also rebuild my life with a renewed sense of purpose and joy. Highly recommended!
