Publisher's summary

Kathleen Paulson is snowed under running her library and caring for her extraordinary felines, Owen and Hercules. But when a fund-raiser turns deadly, she’ll have to add sleuthing to her already full schedule.

Winter in Mayville Heights is busy and not just because of the holidays. Kathleen is hard at work organizing a benefit to raise money for the library’s popular Reading Buddies program. She has her hands full hosting the event. And when a guest at the gala drops dead, her magical cats, Owen and Hercules, will have their paws full helping her solve a murder.

The victim is the ex of town rascal Burtis Chapman, but she hasn’t lived in the area in years. And though everybody is denying knowledge of why she was back in town, as Kathleen and her detective boyfriend, Marcus, begin nosing around, they discover more people are connected to the deceased than claimed to be. Now Marcus, Kathleen, and her uncanny cats have to unravel this midwinter tale before the case gets cold.

HEA but still more to come. YEAH!

I love the Magical Cats series and always look forward to the next one. Not exactly 'cliff-hangers' but HEA for each episode leaving us looking for the next one to come. Gotta love those cats,.

It keeps getting better

Kathleen and friends are back in another great book. Owen and Hercules are also great and add to the fun. There is a lot of character development and the plot was fast paced. I look forward to the next book.

Bland, Overly Sweet and Trite

Main character is dull, boring and overly virtuous and rather subservient. Serving cold milk to boyfriend to go with stew for dinner??? What is that about? Is she a former alcoholic ? Very strange. Cats were ok but why bother with them being magical in a story that clearly was anything but. The murder mystery itself was not spectacular either.

Loved it

This was the best book so far.
It wrapped up a lot of the stories loose ends.

NO

Unbearably inane. Cozy and neighborly friendship dialogue is good but that aspect of this book has the substance and maturity of airhead adolescents. I LIKE cozies, don't expect them to compare to tight plotting and dialogue of Michael Connolly or Peter Grainger so I kept listening to give it a chance but after 6 chapters I just couldn't take it anymore.

Such a brilliant series

There is a mystery at the heart of each of these books, but I love that they are also so much about the people of the town, and their lives and relationships.

My new favourite author.

Since finding Soviet Kelly’s stories I have enjoyed ‘reading’ books that are new to me, again. Simple human stories with just the slightest bit of magic in them. And Cassandra Campbell’s reading of these stories has made them even more enjoyable.
