And throughout this chaos and bloodshed, Rome was ruled by a representative form of government which came to embody the ideals that Americans would embrace more than two thousand years later. But, although the legacy of Rome is seen in an essentially positive light today, the cruelty and harshness by which so many millions were debased by her rule is hard to forgive. Excellent overview
Very interesting. I only wish the book had not ended. I will be digging deeper into Roman history very soon

Must listen, a lot to learn.
Dated to be sure but the content and the lessons to be learned from it out timeless for any citizen. Fantastic narration.

OK aside from the stuffy, snarky & hypocritical...
Tgis was OK aside from the stuffy, snarky, pompous and if course hypocritical Christian views on many things. The writer was far too busy injecting his own biased brainwashed perspectives vs just telling the story...also called 'judgement". The narrator really drove this view home, perfect accompaniment to these views...

Awful Narration
Has A History of the Roman Republic turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, I just need to scope such broad histories a little better.
Would you be willing to try another one of Charlton Griffin’s performances?
No, he's awful.The narrator is so over-the-top, and is phrasing is so nonsensical, that I had trouble following the content of the book.

Dense information, terrible narrator
It offers tons of information, but the narrator is so dry it quickly becomes tedious.
