Publisher's summary

A brand new Ryder & Loveday mystery from global best seller Faith Martin.

Summer 1960, Oxford.

In the glorious sunshine of Oxford, on a day when everyone should be celebrating, tragedy strikes when a university student is found floating in the river, dead.

Probationary WPC Trudy Loveday finds herself paired with coroner Clement Ryder to investigate and it soon becomes clear that this case is not going to be easy. The witnesses all refuse to give a straight answer, each new lead sends them in a new direction and tales of other missing youngsters add further mystery to the investigation. One thing is certain though, something doesn’t seem quite right about the university’s most popular student....

Good new series without sex, swearing and violence

I have pre-ordered the next in this series. Looking forward to seeing the direction the two central characters take. The premise is fresh and entertaining.

Super

It's hard to believe but this installment is actually better than the first one. I loved the mystery, the characters, and I loved the narrator. She did a superb job of really getting the listener into the story.

A good continuation of the series

Trudy and her Coroner mentor make an interesting pair. I liked this book more than I did the first book. I’m so glad I continued with the series.

The narrator, Henrietta Meire, is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Solid Read

Second in series. Enjoyed it. Not too cozy. Plausible ending. Will continue to listen to series. No intertwining love story to distract from the mystery.

Fun…clean read, no swearing or sex

The reader is awesome! And the author is brilliant! I hope she writes more quickly. I’m running out of her books. So glad I found her books.

a tad wordy

little wordy but that is what our coroner is all about. lovely how he leads Trudy to think out the problems. her superior Jennings is never going to learn he has a great policewoman but as long as Ryder does then who cares.

Not as good as the first.

Faith Martin's characters are always interesting and amazingly real. The stories are good and original. The narration is very good but I think I actually enjoy Ms. Martin's books when I read them.

Disappointing

I'm disappointed in this audiobook. I've enjoyed actually reading the Hilary Greene series so was pleased to get this audio version of the first book in a new series by the author in a recent special offer. The narrator seemed to be reading a story to a class of children at times. I persevered to the end, but won't get another audio book with this narrator. I'll read the next book in the series. Such a shame.

Purile drivel .

Unbelievably awful , this would be awarded a D- if presented as an essay at a secondary comprehensive school . The narrator reads this as if to a class of infants getting their first lesson in how not to develop a story . Waste of money and time . Can’t believe drivel like this gets offered for sale even at the sale price of three pounds .

Totally addicted to this series

Well now my problem is that I'm all out of credits with 3 books left to listen to!
These characters are so deep and intriguing.
The narration is tantalising.
The author splashes around a fabulous story here, a few red herrings there mixed with a back story so interesting that, for that alone, you want to hear the next story.
This story is so good and is already showing a fond progression of the characters from the first book to this.
Now to sort out my credit dilemma...

Thoroughly enjoyable

Good characterisation. Well read with a narrator whose voice is vibrant and brings the characters to life whilst being easy on the ear. Twists and turns in the story keep the listener engaged throughout. Enjoying the series and looking forward to the next book.

Good story but more factual research needed.

The narrator's performance was good and drew me into the story and developing relationship between the two main characters.
However, there were a couple of references, in the 1960 based story, to letters being sent by 'second class post' but the two tier 1st and 2nd class post in the UK didn't come into existence until 1968. Why are glaring errors as that not picked up before publication? It may be a small error but when a story is based in a previous decade some 60+ years ago, the facts must be correct otherwise it detracts from the authenticity of the story.

A bit old fashioned this one.

Old style tale set in the mid-twentieth century and almost predictable, also spoiled somewhat by sometimes poor pronunciation of common words ie; brusquely, ebullient etc etc.
Overall a bit disappointing and despite understanding the 'times' in which it is set, l am left finding it a bit "daggy" and pondering the age of the author. I didn't really enjoy it.

1960s Who-dunnit solved by unlikely team

Superbly contrived 1960s plot solved by an unlikely team. Characters well depicted by formidable narrator.
