Publisher's Summary

A duke must choose wisely....

Leopold Dautry, the notorious Duke of Villiers, must wed quickly and nobly - and his choices, alas, are few. The Duke of Montague's daughter, Eleanor, is exquisitely beautiful and fiercely intelligent. Villiers betroths himself to her without further ado.

After all, no other woman really qualifies. Lisette, the outspoken daughter of the Duke of Gilner, cares nothing for clothing or decorum. She's engaged to another man, and doesn't give a fig for status or title. Half the ton believes Lisette mad - and Villiers is inclined to agree.

Torn between logic and passion, between intelligence and imagination, Villiers finds himself drawn to the very edge of impropriety. But it is not until he's in a duel to the death, fighting for the reputation of the woman he loves, that Villiers finally realizes that the greatest risk may not be in the dueling field....

But in the bedroom. And the heart.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!

A compelling, great story with heart-wrenching tension. Keeps you guessing til the end, even though you figure out who will be together, the issue is "how" will it all come together.
Stayed up til after 2 a.m. to finish it in one day. Wonderful love story.

Fantastic ending to the series!

You've got to love the Duke of Villars. He's come a long way since the first in the series "Desperate Duchesses." I only wish that the middle three books in this series were also available as narrated books; however, they are not. I had to stop listening in order to read the three other books in the series before finishing up with "A Duke of Her Own."

The heroine in this book is very outspoken and can handle Villars.

Susan Duerden is a great narrator and I enjoy listening to her. I strongly recommend this book for those who love historical romance novels.

Great end to such intriguing character

Villier is such a complex character that I wanted to see him not only find a mother for his kids but a great partner. Eloisa James manage to do just that, I loved it

Fun and entertaining!!

"A Duke of Her Own" is truly a delightfully easy-listening audiobook. As much comedy as a romance, with subtle fun and very sympathetic heroes and heroines. A bit like a traditional chamber play with a grand HEA end. ~ I enjoyed a lot.

I LIKE - comic hilarious love-adventures in old-time castles..

Started s l o w... Ended great!

I liked this book. Not Mrs. James best but enjoyable enough. I guess my main issue is that the first half of the book is very slow paced. Then it starts to pick up and it becomes sexy and romantic as you expect from this author. The Happily ever after in this book is worth going through the first slow half.

Narration: Susan Duerden is one of my favorite historical romance narrators. Great accents, different and distinct voices for each character and she definitely adds feeling and intensity to the story. In my opinion this book is worth it if you find it on sale.

Duerden's Voice for Villiers is Near Perfection!

Any additional comments?

This is a fantastic final book for the series. Villiers, who has appeared in each book, is absolutely marvelous and the narrator's voice for him is perfection. Elinor is a wonderful character and this listener cheered for her throughout the book. I very much liked the children in the story. They added a lot to the story's depth and substance as did the change in Villiers as he accepts the responsibility of fatherhood. The little pug puppy is a magical character and plays an important role. I would give this more than 5 stars if I could!! Bravo!

I love her narration. She brings the characters to life.

It made me laugh. I loved Leopold and Tobias.

I was happy that Leopold found someone to love. I enjoyed his character from the very beginning in Desperate Duchesses. I can't wait for the next installment.

Slow start, great finish

Any additional comments?

I love E James's books. This was another great book about a woman who gets jilted but is still in love with her lover and tries to discourage all others by saying she will only marry a duke. An eligible one comes up to scratch. Well, not entirely true. The catch is that he needs to decide between two women. So the race is between her, who is not as beautiful but is sharp tongued, witty and voluptuous, and another lady who is absolutely beautiful but is a bit "mad". His criteria is to find the best mom for his 6 illegitimate children. The story takes off from there with the ups and downs involved with not only trying to find the duke’s last two remaining children but also to work through relationships. A truly great read.
