Publisher's summary

A brooding duke finds his beautiful new neighbor way too intriguing for his liking in this delightful Regency romance.

"Grace Burrowes is terrific!" (Julia Quinn)

Nathaniel, Duke of Rothhaven, lives in seclusion, leaving his property only to gallop his demon-black steed across the moors by moonlight. Exasperated mamas invoke his name to frighten small children, though Nathaniel is truly a decent man - maybe too decent for his own good. That's precisely why he must turn away the beguiling woman demanding his help.

Lady Althea Wentworth has little patience for dukes, reclusive or otherwise, but she needs Rothhaven's backing to gain entrance into Polite Society. She's asked him nicely, she's called on him politely, all to no avail - until her prize hogs just happen to plunder the ducal orchard. He longs for privacy. She's vowed to never endure another ball as a wallflower. Yet as the two grow closer, it soon becomes clear they might both be pretending to be something they're not.

Critic reviews

"Another smart story from popular Burrowes." (Booklist)

"Sexy heroes, strong heroines, intelligent plots, enchanting love stories.... Grace Burrowes's romances have them all." (Mary Balogh, New York Times best-selling author)

"All of Burrowes's secondary characters shine with wit and personality, and her sensitive development of two characters living with disabilities in the unaccommodating Regency era is particularly notable. This sparkling romance does not disappoint." (Publishers Weekly)

Lies, Deceit, and Discovery

A very good storyline but I truly wish this series had a better narrator. This book is, in my opinion, particularly bad. Some of the main voices are so formal and stifled that it is difficult to like a character because of how he sounds. A character that is supposed to be likable. Irritating. The story is good but the audible is challenging.

Slow start, but good story

This story seemed a bit slow at the beginning, but developed into an enjoyable tale. The narrator in the audio version did an excellent job dramatizing the story by varying his voice to suit each character. I had to laugh at moment at the character of the duke's butler.

Great story, excellent narration, engaging charact

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Grace Burrowes is an excwellent author who knows how to tell a story and James Langton is a new narrator who did a great job with both male & female voices. I will recommend and certainly listen to this book again.

Enjoyable, Funny, perfectly narrated

A few years ago I discovered Grace Burrowes and binged on all her books that I could find. While I have read a few since then, it’s been long enough that reading A Duke by Any Other Name felt like a new discovery. I recommend this book to all who enjoy good writing by intelligent and witty authors. Whether this will be your first or Xteenth book by Grace Burrowes, you have hours of pleasure ahead of you. James Langton is an excellent narrator and deserves the five stars and more.

Excellent !

I truly enjoyed the witty conversation and the story line. A noble sacrifice for one’s brother is to be admired but I had to laugh at how may times Nathaniel and Althea kept saying their last goodbye but they’ve followed their instinct once they’ve realized their attraction to each other. I loved she wasn’t missish or playing hard to get

Good romance only story

just a tad bit more anachronistic than I normally prefer. The mores of the time are unevenly applied and that grated a bit too. Still a good addition to the series.

Not bad

Even though there was a lot going on in this book, I still enjoyed it. It would be good if I read the series in order, but I didn't that's what I recommend.
