Publisher's summary

Life doesn’t come with an instruction book for the role of perfect wife and mother. However, as Love Taza creator Naomi Davis discovered on her journey from newlywed Juilliard dancer to mother of five, a joyful life is a work of art that only you can create for yourself.

When Naomi launched the popular blog Love Taza a decade ago, she had no way of knowing where that first blog post would lead or the millions of lives she’d impact.

In A Coat of Yellow Paint, Naomi shares new stories, time-stamped as intimate and vulnerable essays , exploring her faith, personal heartaches, challenges balancing a home life with career, motherhood, and her struggles with infertility. Along the way, Naomi illustrates the urgency of celebrating life’s most important things - family, faith, friendship, and an upright piano painted bright yellow - ignoring the critics.

Naomi shares life lessons she’s learned, including how to:

  • communicate openly and honestly in your marriage and friendships
  • be confident in the choices you make as a mother - and why you’re more than “just a mom”
  • overcome criticism - including from yourself - on body image, infertility, and doing “enough”
  • make childhood feel magical, and seek out adventures with your little ones
  • navigate spiritual upheaval and reclaim your faith
  • find more soulfulness in your social media and online experience

If you dream of a life celebrating family, self, and work in a way that feels right for you, A Coat of Yellow Paint will inspire you to drown out the noise of others’ opinions and expectations - so you can be empowered to love your life.

Uplifting while being realistic and fun!

Such a down to earth person, she shares experiences and brings up important topics for discussion as a woman, mother, and human in the busy world we live in. Recommended, absolutely. I hope to be better and find the joy in more of the chaos that is motherhood & love life unapologetically like she does!

Lighthearted

I enjoyed this book. Though I kept wondering why there is no chronological order to the stories. I really appreciated the time stamps, place, hair style, etc... I enjoyed the pearls of wisdom that gave me a good perspective in my own journey as a mom. ♡

Great book!

I just love Naomi. She is and always has been a such a light. Her book is amazing and so refreshing! Loved getting a deeper look into her life. I love her family and the bonds they have and the experiences they get to share. I also love how she talked about some hard things and experiences in this book and how she was able to get through them and find herself in the process. Great book Naomi! Xoxo Jenny Cook Isaacson

So relatable and inspiring!

I loved this book! The stories that Naomi shares are so relatable that you nod along as she is sharing while thinking “I’ve been there”. What I loved too is that every story that is shared is accompanied by a lesson or a takeaway that could be applied in all of our lives.
The ideas and adventures that were shared are so inspiring and motivate you to want to be better and look through a new lense.
If you’re a chronological type of person the jumping around to different times in her life might bug you a little, but I loved how it bounced around to random times in Naomi’s life to relay a message and point that was relevant to what she was trying to teach. Such great lessons talked about in this book. I hope she continues to push forward and create more!

Very Uplifting!

I’m really enjoying this book, a little over halfway through right now. It’s inspiring as a woman and a newish mom, makes me want to be kinder and more loving in all my relationships and to just make the most of where I’m at right now in my life. Thanks for sharing your very personal experiences Naomi, they’re very helpful for this mom’s current season of life :)

Naomi is endearing, relatable, inspiring

As a long-time blog reader, I was happy to discover that Yellow Paint goes deep. These are thoughtful reflections of Naomi’s experiences in being a mother, wife, friend, and woman. Naomi’s musings are not like real-time blog posts but are slow-baked with years of wisdom. There are countless stories of how Naomi decided to make her life bright and painted it yellow. After reading, I feel empowered and inspired that I, too, “can do hard things” and have a joyful, loud dinner table.

Can resonate with anyone

I am an atheist who is not a mother - even though a couple sections focused on religious themes, I still found the messages from Naomi to be very positive and can apply to anyone! I have been following the blog since 2012, so it was definitely fun to hear extra details from posts I remember. The whole narrative is very heartfelt and some of the experiences shared were personal and touching. For me, the book was too short because I wanted to hear more! Can’t wait for the next one by Naomi. The audio extras with Josh and Eleanor were also great additions. What a wonderful family and an enjoyable audiobook!

Just, no.

The world does not need another badly written book by a privileged white woman. Wtf is a “littles” who uses language like that?!?!

Loved it!!

I’ve followed Naomi’s blog for a long time now, and have always found her honest and relatable writing to be inspiring and uplifting. This book did not disappoint, it was full of inspiring stories, and even before finishing it I had already begun applying some of her tips, which definitely helped me!! Couldn’t put it down, listened in every spare moment I had.
