Publisher's summary

Mother-to-be Mary Jo Wyse arrives in Cedar Cove on Christmas Eve, searching for her baby's father. David Rhodes had said he'd be in town. But he isn't. Which leaves Mary Jo stranded, pregnant and alone. And there's no room at the local inn....

So Grace Harding brings Mary Jo home to her nearby ranch. She and her husband, Cliff, have a houseful of guests, but they offer her a room over their stable (currently sheltering the animals - including a donkey and a camel - for Cedar Cove's Nativity pageant!).

When Mary Jo goes into labor that night, a young man named Mack McAfee, a paramedic, comes to her rescue, just as her brothers - the three Wyse men - show up in town. The people of Cedar Cove join them in celebrating the birth of baby Noel. But no one has more to celebrate than Mack. Because this Christmas brings him faith, hope and love...

Don't bother

Didn't realize that it was going to have such a overt Christian theme. Its rather a trite story and just didn't 'grab' me. Don't waste a Credit.

Kindness, Family, Christmas

I love this modern day tale of an unwed mother, with three older brothers, who want to "defend her honor". And I very much appreciate that real life Christians, when faced with a choice to love or condemn, chose to do what our Lord would do . . . what He DID do. This is a precious story of mistakes, love and redemption. And listeners who are put off by "Christian overtones", must have somehow missed the title, A Cedar Cove CHRISTMAS. There is no Christmas without Christ. And for those who have been hurt by the church, rest assured there is none of that in Debbie Macomber's books . . . so come to the stable where the Christ child lays and rest your weary soul. You will be glad you did.

What a disappointment

STORY - This sounded like it would be a fun holiday listen...a modern twist of the classic Christmas story written by a famous author. It's a novel idea that I think could have been so much better than it was. There are, of course, parallels between this story and the classic, i.e., Mary Jo for the Virgin Mary, the three Wyse brothers for the three wise men, but some of them are so far-fetched they should have just been left out. (Like seeing fireworks and saying, "Look, follow that star!") There is way too much detail that served no purpose but to drag things out. Some of the dialogue between the three brothers is so stupid and repetitive it made me want to SCREAM!!!!

On the positive side, the story is cozy and full of holiday cheer. I loved Mack, and the ending of the book is very touching.

PERFORMANCE - The narrator definitely gets an A for effort. This female narrator actually tries to distinguish between the three brothers' voices -- something which many male narrators don't even bother to do. It kinda works and kinda doesn't.

OVERALL -- I've never listened to a Debbie Macomber book before, so die-hard fans might like this story. My advice, however, is to skip it.
