New York Times best seller
An inspiring stand-alone novel about the enduring bond between sisters, the power of forgiveness, and a second chance at love.
Growing up, Cassie Carter and her sisters, Karen and Nichole, were incredibly close - until one fateful event drove them apart. After high school, Cassie ran away from home to marry the wrong man, throwing away a college scholarship and breaking her parents' hearts. To make matters worse, Cassie had always been their father's favorite - a sentiment that weighed heavily on her sisters and made Cassie's actions even harder to bear.
Now 31, Cassie is back in Washington, living in Seattle with her daughter, and hoping to leave her past behind. After ending a difficult marriage, Cassie is back on her own two feet, the pieces of her life slowly but surely coming together. Despite the strides Cassie's made, she hasn't been able to make peace with her sisters. Karen, the oldest, is a busy wife and mother, balancing her career with raising her two children. And Nichole, the youngest, is a stay-at-home mom whose husband indulges her every whim. Then one day, Cassie receives a letter from Karen, offering what Cassie thinks may be a chance to reconcile. And as Cassie opens herself up to new possibilities - making amends with her sisters, finding love once more - she realizes the power of compassion and the promise of a fresh start.
A wonderful novel of perseverance and trust and an exciting journey through life's challenges and joys, Last One Home is Debbie Macomber at the height of her talents.

A new beginning in charming Oceanside, Washington, is exactly what Hope Godwin needs after the death of her twin brother. There are plenty of distractions, like her cozy cottage with the slightly nosy landlords next door, and a brewing drama among her students at the local high school. Even having settled quickly into the community, Hope still feels something is still missing. That is, until her landlords convince her to volunteer at their animal shelter. There she meets Shadow, a rescue dog that everyone has given up on. But true to her name, Hope believes he’s worth saving.

Joan Sample is not living the life she expected. Now a widow and an empty-nester, she has become by her own admission something of a recluse. But after another birthday spent alone, she is finally inclined to listen to her sister, who has been begging Joan to reengage with the world. Two classic stories of finding love where you least expect it! Marriage Wanted: As far as Nash Davenport's concerned, marriage isn't shelter from the storm - it is the storm. He's a divorce attorney, himself divorced, who believes no married couple can live up to their wedding vows. My Hero: Would-be romance writer Bailey York has already failed twice at love. She thinks men are wonderful to read and write about, but that's it. Which is probably why she has such difficulty creating a hero for her novel. What she needs is a real-life example.

Historia
Two classic stories of finding love where you least expect it! Marriage Wanted: As far as Nash Davenport's concerned, marriage isn't shelter from the storm - it is the storm. He's a divorce attorney, himself divorced, who believes no married couple can live up to their wedding vows. My Hero: Would-be romance writer Bailey York has already failed twice at love. She thinks men are wonderful to read and write about, but that's it. Which is probably why she has such difficulty creating a hero for her novel. What she needs is a real-life example.

Another fantastic book
I have listened to about six of Debbie Macomber’s books in a row and I absolutely love them on my drive to and from work. She is good in that you know they are going to be uplifting so you can just enjoy them. I am amazed that the books are well researched and have good observations. I like how that it addressed domestic violence and Habitat for Humanity - oh and the two sisters had their own problems too - nobody has a perfect life after all.

Home indeed is where the heart lives
As with all of Debbie Macomber's books, the reader generally knows the ultimate conclusion. It is the journey to that conclusion that is truly amazing. Ms. Macomber can express human emotion as no other author can. You never want to put her books down and are a bit depressed when done. The reader identifies with each character and the narrator brings each to life. This is a 'must listen'. So many everyday life subjects are interwoven into this one book that ultimately solidify into the one common theme of the importance of love, forgiveness, family, and home.
