Real Solutions for Toxic Relationships

Real stories about real people are interwoven throughout the book to illustrate how common narcissistic abuse actually is and how detrimental it can be. I was surprised at the patterns of denial and co-dependency that surfaced in the examples given by the author. Yet, while toxic relationships are very real, so are the steps and solutions to overcoming them. This book provides concrete actions to help those in such relationships recognize the signs and extricate themselves from them. The author gives specific tips that a listener probably hasn't even thought about. Like what to do once you leave. Things like turning off the GPS on your phone and logging out of all social, financial, and email accounts on any shared computers, having copies (or originals) of official documents like driver's licenses and passports, and setting up a separate, secret bank account before you leave to have money that they can't get to. The book provides thoughtful, caring, and specific advice for those who need it. I recommend it highly.

Insightful Advice

This audiobook is excellent. Narcissistic abuse is very hard to break free of and very complicated. I love the tone of this audiobook: empathetic and, at the same time, empowering. The author really seems to grasp the complexities of healing from a toxic relationship and walks you through 7 very specific steps you need to take to care for yourself, nurture yourself, and rebuild yourself. I highly recommend this audiobook.

I wish I'd had this book sooner!

This is such a lovely listen and an amazing tool to learn to detect red flags from the beginning of a relationship, before everything starts to escalate into chaos. Whilst dispensing important advice and information, this book is an empowering one that gives hope as we learn to overcome the aftermath of abuse and toxicity. A great one to hand over to someone you know who may be struggling with this, and especially to gift yourself if you are feeling confused and lost and in need of healing.
