Cassie Palmer, chief seer of the supernatural world, faces her biggest challenge yet - her own allies! Everything's on the line in the latest thrilling entry in the New York Times best-selling urban fantasy series.

Cassie Palmer has been chief seer of the supernatural world for a little over four months. In that time, she's battled two gods, fallen in love with two men, and confronted the two sides of her own nature, both god and human. So it's not surprising that she currently finds herself facing two adversaries, although they have a single purpose: to wipe out the supernatural community's newest fighting force, leaving it vulnerable to enemies in this world and beyond.

To prevent catastrophe, the vamps, mages, and demons will have to do the one thing they've never managed before and come together as allies. Cassie has the difficult task of keeping the uneasy coalition intact, and of persuading her own two opposing forces, a powerful mage with a secret and a master vampire with a growing obsession, to fight at her side. She just hopes they can do it without tearing each other apart.

Contains mature themes.

I am continually amazed at Karen Chance’s ability to write BETTER books with each installment in the series. I’m used to series trailing off in quality as the creator loses interest, but it’s safe to say Chance is still very invested! Nothing overdone, nothing repetitive; the characterizations continue to grow and evolve. She’s also a surprisingly effective battle writer— rapid movement, gripping action, but still moves the plot forward easily and smoothly. I’ve been reading these books for 13 years, and I’m continually panting for the next one!

My new favorite in the series!!!

Feels like a bridge to some where else. Still a good book. I'm not a Cassie Pritkin fan so that doesn't help me since they have a thing.

It is nice that Cassie seems to finally pulling up her big girl pants..

Good

excellent book! Best Cassie story to date. Loved it! The narrator did a good job of bringing it to life.

Great book.

It was a lovely roller coster that left me breathless at the end. a couple good points are i am glad that cassy is starting to actually reflect and think about a lot of the stuff she is doing rather than just constantly reacting to it. Also i was holding my breath when two certain characters met for real, and breathed such a happy sigh of relief at the end. though i have to admit Karen may have given me an ulcer or two while it was happening!
A couple of...not really bad points but things that irked me . I'm not sure if it's exactly fair to say this here sense it is something that just about all urban fantasy novels with heroine leads do, but the alpha male character constantly yelling about or actively impeding the female leads every move and the female lead only ever putting up the most taken of rebukes for the extra strain they deal with because of it gets rather tedious at times. Maybe there is some allegory or metaphor that as a guy i don't get, but i just don't see how anyone could like, let alone love, someone when they are constantly trying to make their lover take them seriously as a person rather than some kind of frail pet. Still i have to admit that this series is not as bad as some, but i was disappointed a couple times when Pritkin started to do it. The only other thing that irked me about this book, is that Karen Chance has a bad habit of going off on tangents in the middle of conversations, so much so that i kind of forget what the whole thing was about in the first place. LOL even during some of the sexier moments of the book.
A single bad point. This is of course annoying back seat driving, but i have to say that after 9 pretty good sized books the whole bumbly chaotic i don't have a clue how to really use my power thing is kind of old. I hope Cassy continues with her training but honestly she didn't look like she wanted to continue with it after a single session, so i won't hold my breath.
In the end i was well satisfied and had a good time. so money well spent.

A grand chaotic spectacle as always

A good listen with lots of inner dialog so I can see why readers could get bored. The audio book was great though and the narration was excellent. This book was full of both guys and the court, coven and council.

Enjoyable. Cassie finally lets ppl help her.
